Portima

Overview

Founded on 6 April 1986 as a cooperative owned by insurance brokers and insurers, Portima develops and operates the core software stack used by independent brokers across Belgium. The flagship product is Brio, a broker management system covering CRM, policy handling, claims, accounting, document management, and quote comparison across multiple insurers. Portima Connect is a value-added network for electronic data exchange between brokers and insurance carriers. e-GOR, acquired through the Insurtech startup Harukey in 2022, is a cloud-native pension-file management platform that extends Portima's footprint into life insurance.

Headquartered on Terhulpsesteenweg in Watermael-Boitsfort, Brussels, Portima employs in the range of 200 people and is the dominant brokertech provider in Belgium. The cooperative structure means the company is partly owned by the insurance companies and broker associations that use its services, which has kept it tightly coupled to the Belgian distribution model rather than expanding internationally. Portima is ISO 27001 certified and supports the Telebib2 standard used for data exchange between Belgian brokers and insurers.

Jan Peeters has served as CEO since September 2018. Under his leadership the platform has shifted toward an open ecosystem strategy that exposes APIs so third-party Insurtech startups can plug into Brio rather than competing with it. The company is positioning AI capabilities inside Brio and ran a 40th anniversary programme in 2024.
