Overview
The Roeffaers Lab, part of the Leuven NanoCentre, develops optical and electron microscopy imaging approaches including fluorescence and Raman-based techniques. Research is centered on studying working catalysts and advanced materials like perovskite-based solar cells, with work organized under the Centre for Membrane separations, Adsorption, Catalysis and Spectroscopy (cMACS).

- New publication in ACS Nano! We are very pleased to share our latest work: “Hydrogel Transformation Reveals a Conventionally Inaccessible Sub-Micrometer Microplastic Fraction in Intact Human Tissues” 🔬 Detecting micro- and nanoplastics in human tissues remains challenging, particularly for the smallest particles. In this study, we introduce a hydrogel-based tissue transformation and optical imaging workflow that enables in situ, volumetric detection of micro- and nanoplastics down to approximately 400 nm, while
- Last week, we got the opportunity to take part in the Summer of Science, organized by the KU Leuven Faculty of Science! 💡🧪 As part of the CELLNANO course, Roeffaers Lab hosted the final session of the week, introducing high school students to the world of microplastics research. Rocío Rodríguez Torres, Trijn Vervoort, and Bram Dumoulin led engaging lectures and hands-on lab sessions, walking the participants through how we detect, image, and analyze microparticles in the lab. 🔎🧫 It was great to see our team share their daily work
