Overview
Founded by Thoralf Gutierrez and based in Brussels, Sirona Technologies works on direct air capture, a technology that mechanically or chemically removes carbon dioxide from ambient air for permanent storage or industrial use. While plant-based carbon removal is well established, direct air capture offers the ability to remove CO2 from any location, independent of land availability.
The EUR 6.37M raise will fund development of Sirona's capture technology and early commercial deployments. Direct air capture is an expensive technology today, and companies in this space are working to bring costs down through engineering improvements and scale.
Sirona operates in a space that has attracted significant European and global investment as the urgency of carbon removal solutions becomes clearer in the context of climate targets.

- Massive inflection point for our industry 🚀🚀 The EU just proposed to include Direct Air Capture in the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), and to make the EU the largest buyer of carbon removals in history. Here's some context and what that means. The ETS caps the CO2 emissions of Europe's heaviest-emitting industries. The cap shrinks every year, on a path to cutting net emissions by 90% in 2040 and then carbon neutrality by 2050. Companies that cut emissions faster than required can sell their allowances to companies moving slower.
