Overview
Sofico was founded in 1988 in Ghent by Gémar Hompes and Piet Maes. The company develops Miles, a proprietary enterprise software platform that manages contracted and managed vehicle usage across the full product spectrum of automotive finance, operational leasing, rental, fleet management, and shared mobility. Miles handles around 4 million vehicles globally and is used by 8 of the 10 largest vehicle leasing companies in the world.
The company is semi-privately owned and employs more than 600 people across 13 offices on five continents, with over 325 staff based in Flanders. Customers include captive finance arms of major OEMs as well as independent leasing groups, with implementations in more than 40 countries. Mercedes-Benz Financial Services is among the named customers running on Miles. Reported revenue was around EUR 80M for 2023.
Astorg Mid-Cap announced the deal on 21 November 2023 and closed in Q1 2024, acquiring a 51% stake with founders Gémar Hompes and Piet Maes and previous investor Apheon significantly reinvesting alongside. Financial terms were not disclosed. The thesis cited Sofico's defensible position in automotive leasing software and the structural shift from vehicle ownership toward mobility services. The partnership is framed around accelerating product development, geographic expansion, and bolt-on M&A.
In September 2025 Sofico announced a leadership transition. Wim De Bruyne, a former Partner at Montagu Private Equity with prior senior roles at Barco and Proximus, stepped in as CEO. Clive Brett, previously at Cox Automotive, joined as CTO. Gémar Hompes and Piet Maes moved to the Sofico Board of Directors.
