Overview
Spacewell is a smart building software company headquartered in Antwerp. In 2012 Koen Matthijs and Steven Lambert led a management buy-in, and in 2013 the company opened offices in APAC, Scandinavia, France and the US. It raised a €6 million financing round in April 2016. Nemetschek Group acquired the company on 28 August 2018. In January 2019 it bought the Dutch SaaS provider Axxerion, and in February 2019 MCS was rebranded as Spacewell. In December 2020 it acquired the Spanish energy software company DEXMA, which became Spacewell Energy in 2023, the same year Spacewell Maintenance launched. Verdantix named Spacewell a Leader in IWMS and IoT platforms in 2022. The platform has three product lines: Spacewell Workplace (space and floorplan management, reservations, occupancy and air quality sensors), Spacewell Energy (energy analysis and anomaly detection) and Spacewell Asset (facility and maintenance management). Named customers include Booking.com, Burger King, Danone, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens, Accenture, PostNord, AXA Belgium and Q-Park. John van Tessel is Chief Executive Officer. Besides Antwerp, the company has offices in Ratingen, Stockholm, Barcelona, Arnhem, London and Hyderabad. Recent milestones include the Asset App launch in October 2025, availability on Google Cloud Marketplace in March 2026, AIVD certification for the Dutch government in March 2026 and UK Cyber Essentials Plus certification in April 2026.
