Overview
Vivent Biosignals builds plant biosensors that record the electrical signals a plant generates and applies artificial intelligence to interpret them, flagging stress, disease and pest pressure before visible symptoms appear. Its sensor, the VITA1, is battery powered and wireless, places electrodes directly on a living plant to detect ion flow across cell membranes, and feeds a dashboard that refreshes every five minutes with plant balance, water status, nutrient concentrations for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and calcium, and plant activity. Co-founders Carrol Plummer and Nigel Wallbridge met during an INSEAD MBA in 1989. Plummer is co-founder and co-CEO, Wallbridge is co-founder and executive chairman, and Fernando Derossi, previously in senior roles at Syngenta, BASF and UPL Corporation, took over as CEO and partner on 1 February 2026. In November 2025 the company raised 7.5 million euro led by Agri Investment Fund, with Horticoop, Pymwymic and Swiss private investors. It reported more than 1,000 hectares under monitoring in Europe at that point, and 2 million plant days of data by July 2026. It has held B Corp certification since December 2021.

- What if 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗲𝘀 could tell you they were preparing to sprout, before any visible signs appeared? Potato tubers are already sending signals long before sprouting becomes visible. Vivent’s biosensors capture these natural electrophysiological signals and, combined with machine learning, turn them into early insights into sprouting risk. This could help storage managers: ⤷ Optimise the timing of sprout-control treatments ⤷ Protect potato quality and commercial value ⤷ Reduce unnecessary chemical applications ⤷

- 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁. 🌱 What happens when you start listening to plants? Plants are constantly responding to their environment. The challenge is knowing what they are telling us before those responses become visible. That’s where plant-driven intelligence can make a difference. By capturing and analysing electrical signals directly from plants, Vivent provides a new layer of real-time data that can help researchers, growers and agricultural innovators better understand what is happening
