Overview
Douglas Shamlin is the CEO and founder of direct, and is based in the United States. He has been CEO and founder of CLEANhomes since January 2010. He gives his areas of expertise as business process improvement, energy efficiency, information security, optimization and sales strategy.
From March 2025 to March 2026 he was general sales manager at Direct Sales Marketing LLC, and before that a market development specialist at Spectrum from October 2023 to August 2024. He was a sales associate at RV Retailer, LLC in 2022 and a census field manager at the U.S. Census Bureau from August 2019 to September 2020. Earlier he was solar sales manager at SunEdison AG, sales manager at Big D Electric and senior project manager at Energy Systems & Installation. He was CEO and co-founder of SOLgenics, Inc. from February 2006 to May 2012.
Shamlin served in the US Navy in several periods between 1990 and 2007, as a nuclear mechanical operator, information systems division officer, information systems security manager, information assurance director, training director with the NSA Red Team and senior program manager for DOD ISSE. He also worked at Ensys, Inc. from 1993 to 1994.
He holds an MS in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School, studied Nuclear Engineering at Nuclear Power School - Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC), and took a B.S. in Mathematics at North Carolina State University. He attended Cary High School.

I went back through the DOE's own published data (see the EIA's 2024 U.S. energy flow chart) to check a claim I'd made - and the real number turned out to be even more striking than what I originally posted.
