Overview

Emmanuel Janssen launched UCB (Union Chimique Belge) on 18 January 1928 in Brussels to address post-First-World-War supply shortages, building a private, locally financed chemical business out of the consolidation of four existing chemical companies. The group later moved into pharmaceuticals and life sciences research, and grew into one of Belgium's largest biopharmaceutical companies.
