The risk of stolen bearer tokens is very real. I’m aware of successful attacks where a stolen token was enough to gain access. That’s why developments like DPoP matter. By requiring proof of possession of a cryptographic key alongside the token, it helps prevent a stolen token from being reused by an attacker. A valuable addition to ProAuth and a practical step towards stronger API security.LinkedIn · 28 Oct 2026
QuotedProAuth@proauthBearer tokens have a blunt failure mode: if someone can copy the token, they may be able to replay it while it is valid. ProAuth v3 supports DPoP token binding, an OAuth mechanism that turns the access token into only part of the evidence. With DPoP, the client presents: - a DPoP-bound access token - a fresh signed proof JWT - proof that the token and the key belong together - request-specific claims such as method and target URI The resource server can then validate the token, validate the proof, compare the key thumbprint, and reject replayed or mismatched requests. This is especially useful where application-layer sender constraint is more practical than mutual TLS. It does not make client environments magically safe, and APIs still need to validate the proof correctly. But it changes the replay story: copying the token alone is no longer enough. DPoP shipped in ProAuth 3.0. The released-feature article explains the API checks and key-lifecycle decisions. LinkedIn · 30 Sept 2026
