Overview
Joeri Maes is the chief executive officer of lawcloud and is based in Antwerp. He joined Lawcloud in January 2018 as a legal engineer, a role he continues to hold, and took up the position of chief executive officer in January 2022.
Between July 2018 and February 2022 he held a series of roles at Brokercloud, serving as chief commercial officer until January 2021, then as chief product and key relations, and as chief executive officer from August 2021 to January 2022. He also sat on the Brokercloud board from June 2021 to February 2022.
From September 2003 to December 2017 he worked as an entrepreneur and manager in the finance and insurance industry.

I have always found the return to a busy legal calendar quite revealing. ⚖️ When the pace slows down, certain inefficiencies become almost invisible. There is more time to look for something, follow up with someone or fix something that should have been right the first time. 🔍 Once the courts become busy again, that margin disappears. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆,
- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗼𝗳-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱?⚖️ I think we are asking the wrong question. The debate sounds strategic: Should a law firm have one platform that does everything or the best tool for every job? But there is a problem with this debate. 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄.🔗 A document sits in one system. The client information somewhere else. An email in another place. AI in another
- I recently read that Microsoft 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 Harvey 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, and it made me think about something bigger. 🤔 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. 📉 AI can write, summarize and analyse. But legal work requires context, the right case, documents, deadlines, client information, workflows and security. 💼 🔐 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. 🦾 I don’t think the future of legal tech

This past Sunday, I was happy to welcome a few valued Lawcloud relations for an exclusive retreat to Spa Francorchamps for the final day of the 24 Hours. A perfectly organised event, a legendary circuit, and a great atmosphere to cheer on the WRT team in the BMW M Motorsport GT3.
