Overview
Joeri Maes is the chief executive officer of lawcloud and is based in Antwerp. He joined Lawcloud in January 2018 as a legal engineer, a role he continues to hold, and took up the position of chief executive officer in January 2022.
Between July 2018 and February 2022 he held a series of roles at Brokercloud, serving as chief commercial officer until January 2021, then as chief product and key relations, and as chief executive officer from August 2021 to January 2022. He also sat on the Brokercloud board from June 2021 to February 2022.
From September 2003 to December 2017 he worked as an entrepreneur and manager in the finance and insurance industry.

A great result in itself. 🎉 But here's the special part: we were the 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 on the list, which makes us the 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿'𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱𝟬. More open, more integrated, more intuitive and much closer to the reality of how law firms actually work. Today, Lawcloud is one of the nominees for Deloitte’𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱𝟬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. 🙌 A lot has happened between those two moments. We built, learned, grew and kept going. And perhaps that is what makes this nomination so meaningful. Not the title itself, but what it represents: 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁

- After a few conversations with lawyers recently, I had one question in mind: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺'𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲? 🧠 In the memory of a lawyer who has been with the firm for 15 years? Knowledge often includes: • 𝗪𝗵𝘆 a decision was made 💡 • 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 worked or didn't work before 🔄 • 𝗪𝗵𝗼 has experience with a particular issue 👤 • 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 documents are actually relevant 📄 • 𝗛𝗼𝘄 a similar case was handled ⚖️ • 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 sits behind the information 🔗 Much
- 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲. I have always found the return to a busy legal calendar quite revealing. ⚖️ When the pace slows down, certain inefficiencies become almost invisible. There is more time to look for something, follow up with someone or fix something that should have been right the first time. 🔍 Once the courts become busy again, that margin disappears. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆,
- 𝗔𝗹𝗹-𝗶𝗻-𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝗼𝗳-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱?⚖️ I think we are asking the wrong question. The debate sounds strategic: Should a law firm have one platform that does everything or the best tool for every job? But there is a problem with this debate. 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄.🔗 A document sits in one system.
