Overview

Rademaker started the company on the observation that people turn to YouTube to repair things at home, and set out to make the same kind of knowledge transfer possible at work. The business trades as Manual.to under the Belgian entity Binders Media, registered in Ghent in June 2016. Early traction came through corporate programmes. In September 2017 Microsoft selected the company for its Accelerator, giving it 500,000 US dollars in cloud credits and software support and four months of free workspace at its London office. In October 2018 the company took first prize in the Mission Moon: Essential Technologies category at the iGMO EY Vlerick Launchpad event, and in December 2018 it won Flanders' Bizon Corporate Venturing Award together with the mattress textiles manufacturer BekaertDeslee. In February 2024 Manual.to joined Hilando Oportunidades, a USAID-backed programme with North Carolina State University's Wilson College of Textiles, UNITEC, Gaston College, Shimmy and the HUGE Textile Cluster, aimed at training more than 1,500 young people in Honduras in technical textiles, with 2 million US dollars of USAID funding. Manual.to reached the Entrepreneurship World Cup global top 100 in October 2024 and was named one of four Barilla Good Food Makers winners in November 2024. More recently the company won the Elia Group Open Innovation Challenge in December 2025, was picked for the Free Electrons 2026 Top 30 by seven utilities, and was the only Belgian company in the 100+ Accelerator's seventh cohort in May 2026.
