He completed a master's degree in electro-mechanics and automation at Katholieke Hogeschool 'Sint-Lieven', Gent, in 2000, followed by a master's in artificial intelligence at KU Leuven in 2001. He then completed a PhD in engineering sciences at KU Leuven, on real-time robotics, between 2001 and 2005.

- Excellent write up. Note: my take is that this model is cheap and fast because it is smaller and not autoregressive in its output. There is definitely a large demand for such a model family.
- This week, I gave the keynote presentation at the Flanders Make about 'Physical AI'. Lot's of things started working out for the field the past 12-18 months. So the question was: what is ready for industry right now? One of the messages was: 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓, '𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒔' 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒐. That's thanks to AI. Policies that have good sim-to-sim mostly have good sim-to-real. Calling Mujoco, Kamino or any of these extremely good solvers 'roughly correct'
- This sold-out event truly brought robotics research and robotics industry together. Thanks to Wouter Favoreel and Flanders Make for organizing!
- The irony of this post "...𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐛 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝"... in casu: This robot can release a 12kw power-surge (as advertised) through its motors, exceeding safety standards with a factor 4,000..12,000. It belongs in a lab.
- With customer = paid a proportional amount of money for the product/service you sold.
- There is one thing we deliberately don’t want the Twipe Digital Growth Summit to be: A conference where you sit, listen, take a few notes — and go home. From the start, we wanted DGS to be different. We bring together a relatively small group of people who are actively shaping the future of news. And we expect them to do more than listen. Challenge the speakers. Share what works — and what doesn’t. Debate with your peers. Contribute your own experience. Because some of the most valuable insights don’t come from the stage.
- We set out to build something Mediahuis nv could own and run without us. 25+ branded news apps, on one codebase, ten million readers a day. Since Q2 2025, their own team ships. "Twenty five brands, one codebase, and our team now ships without them." — CTO Peter Soetens That's the bar we aim for on every partnership. If you're building something that needs to scale and you want your own team running it in the end, let's talk. — Pieterjan Janssens, Client Director
- Today, I had a talk with an investor 💸 . I told him that within 3-5 years, all new cars will have legs. Why? 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 10.000 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒈𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒍 𝒏𝒐𝒘, 𝒏𝒐 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒓𝒖𝒑𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒕. Legs allow to park and turn in much more narrow spaces and hardly cost more once it is a commodity. He invested $100 million. I told him to be patient. Hardware is hard, but the upside is in the trillions. 🫡 H/T to Herbert ten Have, the swiss army knife of
