Overview
Peter Soetens is the CEO of Intermodalics, a role he has held since August 2010. He is based in Leuven and states expertise in robotics, machine vision, C++ and artificial intelligence.
He was also CEO of Pickit 3D from June 2016 to August 2022. Between May 2009 and 2014 he worked as a freelance consultant at The SourceWorks. From 2005 until April 2009 he was a senior researcher at Flanders Mechatronics Technology Centre, also recorded as FMTC. Before that, from September 2001 to October 2005, he was a research assistant at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
He completed a master's degree in electro-mechanics and automation at Katholieke Hogeschool 'Sint-Lieven', Gent, in 2000, followed by a master's in artificial intelligence at KU Leuven in 2001. He then completed a PhD in engineering sciences at KU Leuven, on real-time robotics, between 2001 and 2005.

- It has been shown before that these simulators can be used for training, needing video only for the fine tuning. Maybe the data problem in robotics is not so large as it seems.

- This week, I gave the keynote presentation at the Flanders Make about 'Physical AI'. Lot's of things started working out for the field the past 12-18 months. So the question was: what is ready for industry right now? One of the messages was: 𝒅𝒐𝒏'𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓, '𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒑𝒉𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒔' 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒐. That's thanks to AI. Policies that have good sim-to-sim mostly have good sim-to-real. Calling Mujoco, Kamino or any of these extremely good solvers 'roughly correct'
