Overview
Wessel Kooyman is the CEO and founder of Sunbird Medical Devices, based in Brussels, where he has been a senior consultant since March 2022. He also works at IBA on software development for medical devices, a role he took up in May 2023, and from April 2026 he is a senior consultant at CEFALY Technology.
Kooyman studied computer science at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam in the early 1990s. He was chief software architect at ClickTime from 2001 to 2005, then a digital project manager at Proximity BBDO and, from 2007 to 2010, at Euro RSCG 4D. He was CEO of Cole Street from 2010 to 2017, created and organised PitchInBrussels between 2015 and 2020, and co-founded d.work in 2017. After a period as digital programme manager at Digitas Belgium, he was chief technology officer of LindaCare, interim technology lead at Helpilepsy, interim chief technology officer at Moonbird and tech lead at MostWanted.
He has since worked on medical device software with Elexes Medical Consulting LLC, Biogen, Indigo Diabetes nv, FOx Biosystems and Terumo Europe.
