🧱 How do you test the durability of the next generation of CO₂-negative building materials?
At SINTEF in Trondheim, Norway, accelerated weathering tests are now underway on small masonry elements produced with Pirrouet® bricks and other innovative products being developed within the #Carbon4Minerals project, alongside conventional ceramic references supplied by Vandersanden.
Tobias Danner and Fredrik Slapø are responsible for using the 𝗡𝗧 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝟰𝟵𝟱 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 to test the samples mounted on a rotating carousel. Samples are subjected to different environmental conditions for one hour each, completing six full cycles every day. We are exposing them to:
🏠 Indoor climate
☀️ UV/IR radiation
💦 Water spray
❄️ Frost
The NT Build 495 facility has been used by #SINTEF for decades to evaluate the long-term performance of construction materials.
𝗕𝗨𝗧! This marks the first time it is being used to test brick and masonry walls, providing valuable insights into the durability and real-world performance of innovative low-carbon construction products.
