Why does the revised UWWTD start with existing plant performance?
The revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive is now in force.
Most utilities are already looking at what this will mean for future upgrades:
tighter nutrient removal, micropollutant obligations, and pressure to improve energy performance.
But the real issue is not only future CAPEX.
It is also how existing plants are operated today.
Many wastewater plants still run with conservative margins because operators are forced to make decisions with incomplete visibility. That means higher energy use, less efficient dosing, and avoidable operating cost long before the next upgrade cycle begins.
In this edition, we explain why the revised UWWTD should also be seen as an operational challenge and why utilities that start optimizing now will be in a much stronger position when the deadlines arrive.
Learn how Liquisens Predict turns wastewater data into operational intelligence.
