Peloton's output metric, watts and personal power records per ride, creates a behavioral investment specific to the platform. A user watching their personal output record rise across eight rides has something on Peloton that doesn't transfer to another cycling platform. The number belongs to them. It lives there.
The apps that hold health subscriptions understand this dynamic as a product design question, not a CRM question. A member who has completed 14 consecutive days of tracking, or 8 consecutive sessions, or a 20-day streak, isn't evaluating a renewal reminder. They're deciding whether to interrupt a record they built themselves.
Old-way KPI: are users renewing? New-way KPI: are users completing challenges in weeks 2 and 3?
The second metric is the leading indicator for the first.
