Controlling high-risk processes: automation improves reproducibility while reducing human exposure.

The reproducibility of routine quality control (QC) tests depends on many variables. Assay conditions are carefully optimised, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are designed to ensure that validated protocols are followed consistently.
Yet even with well-trained teams, 24/7 QC operations present challenges. Shift rotations, long working hours and fatigue can affect attention to timing, sample tracking and procedural details. When hazardous reagents are involved, these factors may also increase safety risks.
Automation helps reduce this variability.
Scheduling software can manage critical timings and sample tracking, while automated instruments perform repetitive tasks consistently. This reduces manual handling and limits staff exposure to hazardous materials.
Importantly, automation does not remove people from the process. It allows them to focus on higher-value responsibilities: overseeing operations, investigating deviations and identifying equipment wear or emerging issues.
At the same time, software-generated event logs and control-parameter reports provide greater process visibility, helping teams detect outliers and gradual trends before they affect quality.
The result is a more reproducible, traceable and safer QC process, with skilled staff firmly in control.
