Students turning global challenges into action What happens when students from different disciplines, universities, and countries come together to tackle real sustainability challenges? 🧩 New ideas emerge. 🎓 New collaborations take shape. ✨ And students discover that they have the knowledge, skills, and courage to contribute to solutions for some of society's most pressing challenges. From 20 to 24 August, the SDG Innovation Challenge returns to KU Lighthouse‎. Over five intensive days, students will work in multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through a design sprint focused on ideation, prototyping, social innovation, and pitching. This year's challenge is developed in collaboration with 100% for the Children with a focus on challenges in Kibera, Africa's largest informal settlement. Participants will work on a real and meaningful case addressing issues that affect children, young people, and communities every day. The challenge is organised by the School of Global Health and KU Lighthouse‎, with participaing students from all over the 4EU+ Alliance. The philosophy behind the programme resonates strongly with a recent opinion piece by Eva Hoffmann together with Fonden for Entreprenørskab and colleagues : "Denmark's next great entrepreneurial adventure does not begin when a company is founded. It begins when young people discover that they can turn their knowledge into action." And there is evidence that it works. Last year, a team with students from Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen went on to win the SDG Olympiad, demonstrating what can happen when academic knowledge, creativity, and determination are applied to real world challenges.
