While everyone was looking at the solar eclipse yesterday, some batteries were making money.
The predicted dip in solar production pushed day-ahead prices up to almost €500/MWh. One of our clients saw the opportunity and discharged their battery between 19:00 and 21:00, right through the price peak, giving a solid profit from just two hours.
Prices like this don't happen every day, most days the swings are smaller. But the eclipse makes for a pretty graph and a great example of what's possible: beyond storing energy, a battery can also trade on the market and turn price volatility into revenue.
