The first reflex to the current hot summer is adapting. At all levels. And it seems that insurance companies demand for it. Logical, as they are paying the bills and see the risk on their balance sheet.
But there is a limit to adaptation. What will you adapt to? The 100y storm? The 100y hot summer? Evolving into the future these 100y standards will become 10y standards and be replaced by new, more severe 100y standards. We can’t keep adapting because at some point it is impossible. And too expensive.
So how will insurance companies derisk their balance sheet? To me it makes sense that they invest in source control rather then end of pipe solutions.
