OpenAI and Anthropic are right to be scared: The next innovations in the agentic AI space are not in the models, they're in the harnesses.
I was invited to talk at Approach Cyber yesterday (thank you David Vanderoost!) and I got to share more about this exact point. Better models do yield improvements, but better harnesses are where the next magnitudes of improvements are unlocked.
And you know what, all those billions of dollars invested in model training got us there. The frontier labs are utility providers, competing against open weight models that are just as good given the right harness.
And this is what I've been arguing for, for the past three years: #Europe does not need to invest hundreds of billions training model, nor should it. The money is burned and it will not give us a leg up in the race. Training is becoming cheaper and inference is becoming less relevant.
Good harnesses do not require large amounts of money to develop. The frontier labs still don't have a moat.
