Domtar idles Howe Sound pulp mill The move removes about 380,000 tonnes of annual NBSK pulp capacity from British Columbia. Domtar will indefinitely idle its Howe Sound mill and Bayview Fibre chipping facility in Port Mellon, British Columbia. The decision affects about 400 employees and removes approximately 380,000 tonnes of annual NBSK pulp capacity. Domtar cited weak Asian demand, poor global pulp pricing and constrained affordable domestic fibre. For the coastal fibre chain, this is a major pulp-capacity and wood-supply development.
