Overview
The CompOmics group, headed by Prof. Dr. Lennart Martens, is part of Ghent University's Department of Biomolecular Medicine and the VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology. The group specializes in the management, analysis and integration of high-throughput omics data with an aim towards establishing solid data stores, processing methods and tools to enable downstream systems biology research. The group develops web applications including Unipept, lesSDRF, MS²PIP, LNCipedia, and others.

- Proteomics just entered the foundation model era. OmicsFM is out. A modality-agnostic transformer pretrained on tens of thousands of proteomics profiles reprocessed from public PRIDE data, and it rivals transcriptomic models trained on orders of magnitude more data. It finds molecular relationships that co-expression misses, keeps biological structure across independent studies, and transfers across downstream tasks. Proteomics and transcriptomics turn out to capture complementary biology. Huge congratulations to Sander
