Docbyte is a Ghent company founded in 2006 by Frederik Rosseel, who is its CEO. - In life sciences, the final report is only one part of the record. Protocol versions, source data, review history, approvals, deviations, metadata and supporting correspondence may all be needed long after a study or process has closed. A usable archive keeps the relationships between those records visible. That gives quality, regulatory and operational teams something they can inspect instead of a folder of disconnected files.
- An electronic signature can remain attached to a document while the ability to verify it weakens. Certificates expire. Trust anchors change. Validation context gets lost. Long-term preservation needs a plan for the signed object, the validation evidence and the renewal of that evidence over time. The question is whether the organisation can still explain and verify the signature when the record is needed later.
- AIP stands for Archival Information Package. In the OAIS model, it is the preservation package held by the archive. It contains the record itself, together with the metadata and preservation information needed to keep that record understandable and trustworthy over time. This becomes important when systems change. A file copied into a new folder is not automatically an AIP. The archive also needs the context, integrity evidence and provenance that make the record usable years later. - Before choosing preservation software, test five points: 1. Archive scope and provenance capture. 2. Metadata and relationships that travel with the record. 3. Integrity checks that remain usable years from now. 4. Handling of format and source-system change. 5. Retrieval of the record and the evidence behind it. OAIS gives teams a useful way to structure the conversation. Each answer should be concrete enough to test.
