Overview
Isala is a citizen-science project of the University of Antwerp aimed at better understanding the female microbiome with advanced DNA technology. The project studies how vitamins, menstrual products, the menstrual cycle, and close contacts influence the vaginal microbiome. In 2020, Isala received nearly 6000 applications for 200 research spots, making it the world's largest study of the vaginal microbiome at the time.
