Overview
He was general manager of Westinghouse Cable Systems in Texas and Alabama and director of government relations at Group W Broadcasting and Cable, then president of the Ohio division of Time Warner Communications from 1989 to 1994. He moved to the Telenet job the following year and has stayed in it since.
John Porter has been chief executive officer of Telenet Group Holding NV since 2013, when he took over from Duco Sickinghe. Telenet group sells digital television, fixed and mobile internet and telephony in Belgium and Luxembourg under the brands Telenet, Telenet Business, BASE, TADAAM, Blossom, Play Sports, Play Media, Connectify and Eltrona, and employs more than 3,000 people. Also in 2023, Liberty Global took full ownership of Telenet and the company left the stock exchange. He is the first chief executive of a Belgian company to be inducted.
