- Acquisition news! 😊 LeHibou, the specialist platform connecting freelancers with large corporations, has made its first acquisition in Belgium. And it’s not Sentometrics they acquired... it’s afarax, a company that has built a community of 40,000 qualified IT freelancers in Belgium and Luxembourg. This morning’s announcement was the perfect starting point for a mentoring session with Christophe de Becdelievre, CEO of LeHibou. I received the news through the media signals in my business development collection at the Sentometrics

- The Geert Langenus Indicator When you’re unsure what’s happening in the economy, ask Geert Langenus. That’s my personal credo—and one I also use when estimating economic models. The idea is explained in our open-access publication in the Journal of Business Cycle Research, co-authored with Arno De Block and Peter Reusens. More attention to Geert in the Flemish media is a signal of turbulence: a period when rapidly changing variables deserve more weight in the estimation. Today, attention is once again shifting toward growth
- Fraud and money-laundering risk screening is often described as finding a needle in a haystack. The hard question is: where do you start? The Semlex case illustrates that part of the answer is in the complementarity of media signals and network analysis. The allegations in the media started in 2017 and reportedly concern foreign bribery, money laundering and tax fraud linked to the production of biometric passports for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Belgian prosecutors recently stated that all suspects had been referred to
