Rana Mahmoud

Overview

Rana Mahmoud is co-founder and CEO of Decidius, a role she took up in March 2026. She is based in Brussels. Since February 2025 she has also been the founder of Eco Narrate, and since September 2025 a start-up builder at Carbon13.

She joined Deloitte in November 2022 as a manager in sustainability real estate and was senior manager sustainability in real estate from June 2023 until September 2024. Between October 2022 and January 2025 she was a member and project manager at YES-Europe (Young leaders in Energy and Sustainability). Earlier she was a research leader and partner at the CUES Foundation from 2018 to 2020, and sat on the energy efficiency and sustainability advisory board of the Initiative Arab Society for Promoting Sustainability-NGO. She worked as an architect at SL Rasch GmbH Special & Lightweight Structures from 2012 to 2015, as a researcher at the University of Stuttgart, as an architect at Aura, Better Living by design, and as a landscape architect at Green Touch.

Mahmoud was a PhD researcher at Universiteit Gent from 2016 to 2022, completing a doctorate in architecture engineering and building physics. She holds master's degrees from the University of Kassel and Cairo University in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and a bachelor's degree in architecture from Cairo University.
