Overview

Proximus traces its origins to the RTT (Régie des Télégraphes et des Téléphones), founded on 19 July 1930 as Belgium's national telegraph and telephone company. The RTT became Belgacom in 1992, an autonomous public-sector company, and launched the Proximus mobile network through subsidiary Belgacom Mobile in 1994. The group rebranded from Belgacom to Proximus in 2014 and 2015. As of the end of 2023, the Belgian State held approximately 53.5 percent of the company.

The group employs around 12,725 people and runs Belgium's largest fixed and mobile network, with an active fibre rollout and a growing portfolio of digital services. International activities are bundled in subsidiaries TeleSign, a digital identity and CPaaS player, and BICS, a wholesale international voice and messaging carrier.

Guillaume Boutin served as CEO from late 2019 until April 2025. Stijn Bijnens was appointed CEO on 13 June 2025 and took up the role on 1 September 2025. The group is preparing the construction of a new headquarters at the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels.
