🎤 Presentation completed at the 40th Şişecam International Glass Conference! Congratulations to Jérôme for his presentation this afternoon on the optimization of Low-E glass coatings, combining genetic algorithms, 3D atomic-scale film growth modelling, and reactive magnetron sputtering simulations to create a true digital twin of the deposition process. The objective? To maintain the optical and low-emissivity performance of Low-E glass while reducing the consumption of silver, a critical raw material. Through simulation, we demonstrated how challenges associated with thinner silver layers, such as nucleation issues, can be better understood and mitigated by simulating the introduction of controlled Ru impurities. But perhaps the most interesting outcome of the discussion came after the presentation. The key question raised by the audience was not how to reduce silver consumption, but rather: ❓ What happens over time? How do thinner silver layers behave after years of service? What are the effects of diffusion, aging, and environmental exposure on coating performance? These are exactly the types of questions that drive the next generation of simulation tools.
