🚀 LiThinovate – Kick-off!
We are proud to officially launch LiThinovate, a strategic COOTECH project led by AGC Glass Europe, with ICS - Innovative Coating Solutions as the industrial technology partner.
The project addresses a key challenge for next-generation batteries: how to manufacture high-quality metallic lithium anodes in a cost-efficient and scalable way.
LiThinovate will combine thermal evaporation and magnetron sputtering to develop thin, homogeneous and resource-efficient lithium coatings with precisely controlled interfaces. The objective is to improve coating quality, reduce lithium consumption and production costs, and ultimately contribute to scalable manufacturing solutions for Generation 4 and 5 batteries.
The project is built around two industrial partners:
🔹 AGC Glass Europe — project leader, bringing its industrial expertise and vision for next-generation battery technologies
🔹 ICS - Innovative Coating Solutions — technology partner, contributing its expertise in vacuum deposition, magnetron sputtering and lithium coating processes
To support the project, Matgenix will contribute to simulation and materials screening for definition of electrolyte interface, while the NCE group at the Université de Liège led by Nathalie Job (ULiège/ChemicalEngineering), will carry out part of the cells characterization, together with CSEM.
The project is supported by Walloon Region through the Service public de Wallonie and co-funded by the European Commission via the Fonds européen de développement régional (FEDER) under the #EnMieux programme.
With a duration of 44 months, LiThinovate represents an important technological and strategic project for ICS, and an opportunity to work closely with AGC on a highly promising route towards the lithium anodes of tomorrow. 🔋
The kick-off brought together Philippe Roquiny, Louis Dellieu, PhD, Eddy Catot, Véronique EMOND and Nicolas Rivolta from AGC, Valentin Goffinet, Stéphane Lucas, Emile HAYE, Dr. Eng and Driélle Müller from ICS, Guillaume Brunin and Julien Bouquiaux from Matgenix, Nathalie Job from the University of Liège, as well as Sophie Peeterbroeck and Bastien Barthélémy from SPW.
44 months ahead. A clear ambition: making lithium deposition more efficient, homogeneous and scalable.
