What happens when the energy transition moves faster than the development of the electricity grid? ⚡🌱 The Netherlands is becoming a clear example of a challenge that several European countries are increasingly facing: grid infrastructure is not always able to keep pace with rising electricity demand, electrification, and the rapid growth of new renewable energy capacities. According to a recent Reuters article, several regions in the Netherlands have already introduced restrictions on new grid connections. This highlights an important point: the energy transition is not only about installing more solar panels, wind turbines, or generation capacity. It is also about using existing energy systems in a smarter and more flexible way. 🔌 This is where data-driven energy management can play a growing role: analysing consumption patterns, using smart metering data, optimising local energy flows, and preparing flexibility solutions that help balance the grid.
