An empty building still consumes energy. The question is: how much, and why?
The energy consumption of a school, sports hall or municipal office does not stop when the last person leaves the building.
In the background, several systems may continue operating:
⚡ heating or cooling systems running on inefficient schedules,
⚡ lights and equipment left switched on,
⚡ ventilation operating continuously,
⚡ or devices consuming far more energy than necessary.
These patterns can be difficult to identify on a monthly energy bill. In time-series data, however, it quickly becomes visible when a building maintains an unnecessarily high baseload during nights, weekends or public holidays.
The first step in energy management does not always have to be a major investment.
Often, it starts with understanding exactly when, where and how energy is being used.
