In a barn on Funen, the air is being caught—and chemically dismantled 🐄 Inside a simple container next to the barn, a blue light flickers: Air is pulled in and sent through a reactor, where UV light splits chlorine molecules into highly reactive atoms. These react instantly with methane, breaking it apart into other compounds—replicating a natural atmospheric process, just radically accelerated.⚡ So instead of trying to remove cows from the equation, researchers from the University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) asked a different question: What if we removed the methane instead? And created Ambient Carbon: As Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, Matthew Johnson, puts it: “We’ve basically put nature’s own chemistry on steroids. The result - methane is broken down up to 100 million times faster than it would be in nature." It’s not loud innovation. It doesn’t ask for big behavioral change. It just… fits in.
