The average power price tells you less every year. What matters now is the range around it.
Look back to 2022 and the picture is dramatic: sky-high prices and violent swings, driven by a gas-price crisis. That was a story about how expensive energy had become.
What is happening now is different, and in a way more telling. The average price sits far below those crisis levels and stays relatively steady. But the band around it has not settled with it. The distance between the cheapest and the most expensive hours keeps widening: deeper lows when sun and wind flood the grid, sharper highs when they fall away. Not because energy is expensive again, but because it is increasingly variable.
For a site that consumes passively, that widening band is pure exposure. The more the extremes spread apart, the more cost lands on whichever hours you happen to draw from the grid.
For a site set up to respond, the same band is opportunity. Store energy when it is cheap or even free. Use it when the grid is at its most expensive. Shift flexible loads toward the low hours. The wider the band, the more there is to capture.
That is the core of what we design and operate: behind-the-meter systems that turn a volatile market from a risk into a source of value. Solar, storage and active steering, matched to how a site actually consumes.
We design, finance, build and operate these systems as a service. No CAPEX.
Curious how wide the spread runs on your own meter, and what a responsive setup could recover from it? Let's map it together.
