Project EDDIE

Europe does not need one central database for energy data.
It needs a trusted way to connect what already exists - and a common architecture that lets new services scale across borders.
That is the idea behind Project EDDIE.
EDDIE began with two fundamental data-access challenges:
- Access to validated historical and billing data held by energy-market infrastructures.
- Consent-based, near-real-time access to data from smart meters and devices at the grid edge.
The architecture in this carousel connects these environments. A Data Need describes what a service requires and why. The active European customer authenticates and gives explicit consent. Region Connectors translate national processes into a common interface. AIIDA integrates near-real-time smart-meter and grid-edge data. Standardised delivery interfaces bring authorised data to the selected service.
EDDIE is now extending these patterns to support:
- Demand response
- Energy sharing
- Flexible Connection Agreements
- Flexibility from EVs, batteries, heat pumps and other distributed energy resources
This demonstrates the wider value of EDDIE: its patterns are not tied to one application, technology or country. Data Needs, consent management, Region Connectors, common information models and distributed integration can be reused for other use cases and regions. Organisations can also build their own smart-meter integrations and Region Connectors.
Enterprise architecture connects business objectives, market roles, regulation, customer journeys, information models, standards and technical components. It makes EDDIE a coherent, extensible framework that can evolve with Europe's energy system.
The long-term ambition is large-scale adoption and the realisation of the EU Digital Single Market for Energy: customers can securely share their data, while innovative services operate across Europe without rebuilding integrations country by country.
One customer journey. One consent-based approach. Many interoperable regions, technologies and use cases.
