Democratic schools have practised what most education systems only preach: participation as the operating system of the school, not a poster in the hallway. School meetings with equal votes. Conflict resolution through justice committees. Responsibility that grows with the child.
๐ง๐ผ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ ๐ผ๐ป ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฏ๐น๐ผ๐ด, we present the second FutureEd guide of the month: a rights-centred education guide with best practices from democratic education, developed with our partner EUDEC - European Democratic Education Community, the network connecting democratic schools across Europe. ๐ช๐บ
The best part?
A conventional school can start with one honest class meeting a week
โ A school board can pilot genuine student voice in a single policy area
โ A teacher can change how classroom rules get made โ starting Monday
When we asked teenagers this summer about school democracy, they described councils that "didn't really actually do much." But when participation was real โ co-deciding schedules, running their own school trips โ everything changed in how they talked about school. That difference is learnable. This guide teaches it.
๐ฐ Full presentation tomorrow on https://lnkd.in/dhfJGW3rย โ the guide is in final layout, publication link coming very soon.
