Overview
Gorilla builds an Energy Margin Intelligence platform for energy retailers. It connects commercial, operational and trading data so that companies can see margin at contract level, steer pricing, align pricing with forecasting and billing, and make portfolio decisions based on margin. The platform is organised in four areas: See, Steer, Protect and Grow. Named customers include ScottishPower, EDF, ENGIE, Centrica Business Solutions, Gas South, SEFE, SachsenEnergie, ESB, Luminus, UGP, SouthStar and CleanChoice Energy. The company started as a research project at the Belgian tech agency November Five, was founded in 2018 and officially spun off in early 2019. Ruben Van Den Bossche is co-founder and CEO. Gorilla is headquartered in Antwerp and has offices in London, Austin and Melbourne, with a presence in Germany. In December 2022 Gorilla raised a €6 million Series A from Beringea and PMV, with support from VLAIO, when it had 40 employees. In June 2024 it raised a €23 million Series B led by Headline, with Beringea and PMV participating, to expand into the US and Germany. It signed its first American customer in 2023, a multi-year contract with ESB in 2024, SachsenEnergie in 2025 and CleanChoice Energy in 2026, and announced a partnership with Capco in 2025. Gorilla won Startup of the Year at the Flanders International Business Awards 2024, was named Most Sustainable Company 2024 for Climate & Energy (SME) at the Trends Impact Awards, was shortlisted for Innovator of the Year at the Reuters Energy Industry Awards 2026 and won Best Product for Energy & Utilities at the 2026 SaaS Awards.

- Peak load records used to be set once a decade. Now they're set most summers, and the shape of demand is shifting underneath them as heat and transport electrify and data centre load arrives faster than networks planned for. A forecast built on ten-year averages is going to be obsolete. We wrote this piece more than a year ago, but the conclusions remain just as prescient now. Worth reading before the winter planning cycle starts: https://lnkd.in/es8ehV8c
- AI has made forecasting models easy to produce. It has not made them easy to trust. For an energy retailer, a forecast is not an academic output. It sets the hedge, the price and it sets the margin the business books. However, a model nobody can explain is a model nobody can defend. As machine learning becomes more important, the question for the next few years is whether an organisation can actually act on a forecast it didn't build by hand. https://lnkd.in/eMqmS2Vm
- Finishing our week on a high - we've been named a finalist for the 2026 Platts Global Energy Awards by S&P Global Energy ⭐ Often called the Oscars of energy, the Platts Global Energy Awards are now in their 28th year, and this year's finalists span 36 countries, with more than 57% from outside the US. To be recognised alongside them, for what we're building for energy retailers, means a great deal to our team at Gorilla. Energy retailers are making high-stakes margin decisions faster and under more pressure than ever. Helping them
- From 10–14 days to under 4 hours: how a major UK energy retailer rebuilt residential pricing with Gorilla's Energy Margin Intelligence on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Volatile markets, MHHS demands, manual spreadsheets that couldn't keep pace. By the time a pricebook was ready, the market had moved on. What changed: 📉 95% cut in pricebook creation time 📉 75% fewer errors reaching SAP billing ✅ Full MHHS compliance, previously out of reach ⚡ Intraday pricing for the first time Built on AWS to extend SAP IS-U and S/4HANA, not
- Pricing at tier one scale breaks most tools. Thousands of pricebooks, exception cases nobody documented and a market that repositions constantly. ScottishPower's team took that on with Gorilla. - The best conversations in energy happen when we step outside our own organisations and compare notes. That's the idea behind The Energy Edge 💚 🦍 In a new article, our CEO Ruben Van den Bossche looks back at June's gathering at the Barbican, where senior leaders from across energy retail, technology and consulting got candid about margin, data, AI and the changing operating model of the retailer. We’ll be bringing the community together again on Tuesday 17th November at King’s Place, this time to explore the agentic frontier:
- AI must meet that same bar by taking the cumbersome work away and leaving the judgement with the retailer.' - VP Product & Engineering, Joris Van Genechten, on why we've grounded our new AI in the same calculation engine retailers already trust rather than bolting on generic pricing logic. 💡 The reason it matters: our Energy Margin Intelligence Index found that even if 90% of energy executives trust their margin reporting, most still estimate 6–10% of annual revenue is at risk from poor visibility or margin in time and slow
- What does an AI rollout actually look like once the pilot is over? Baringa is joining The Energy Edge: Agentic Frontier to answer exactly that. Ryan Thomson and Benjamin Dugauquier will lead The AI Rollout Playbook workshop, giving energy leaders practical guidance for taking AI applications from demo to deployment.
