Overview
Artificial intelligence covers software that derives its behaviour from data rather than from rules written out by hand, which is why one label now sits on a spam filter, a demand forecast and a chat assistant alike. The rules come from the EU AI Act, which entered into force on 1 August 2024; prohibitions applied from 2 February 2025, obligations for providers of general-purpose AI models from 2 August 2025, and Member States had to designate national competent authorities by that same date.
