Born in Sint-Niklaas on 24 April 1987, Vertonghen holds the record for most international caps for the Belgian national team (157). He retired from football in 2025 after his final club stint at Anderlecht. Alongside his playing career he founded Vertonghen Ventures, focusing on sports technology and real estate investments. He has been linked to investments in injury prevention software company Hylyght.
