- It's not a small bit frustrating to me that people (particularly, highly technical people) seem to neglect the word "artificial" in "artificial intelligence". AI is artificial, that is its distinction. In our current tech era, well-trained and highly parametrised next-token predictors and diffusion models yield awesome simulations of our own reasoning. This, combined with harnesses that loop around these, and provide useful state management, tends to confuse people but does not fundamentally change the underlying technology:

- On a day off to celebrate my youngest’s birthday, I was chilling at the swimming pool when I overheard a mom talking to her son. She was reluctant to bring drinks and food into the swimming pool area: one of the five commandments bulletined on a board said you’re not allowed to do so. So she told her (12-year-old-ish) kid they couldn’t take the drinks. Upon which the kid responded “Com’on mom just take it with you, everybody is doing it”.
