Overview
Mikael Shamim is the chief executive officer of Helicus, a role he has held since November 2016. He is based in Antwerp.
Before Helicus, Shamim was deputy country director at Orpea Belgium on an elderly care reorganisation project from November 2015 to October 2016, and managing director of RevArte Rehabilitation Hospital on a hospital turnaround project from September 2014 to October 2015. He was chief operating officer of Kärcher Benelux from March 2011 to September 2014, and deputy general manager for after sales at Toyota Motor Europe from March 2004 to February 2011. Earlier, he was a senior consultant at Bain & Company, spent a summer in 2002 as an MBA summer associate in corporate finance advisory at Barclays Capital, and worked as a senior consultant at Accenture from 1996 to 2001.
Shamim studied commercial engineering in economics and technology at the University of Antwerp, including an Erasmus year at Goethe University Frankfurt, and took an MBA at SDA Bocconi with a six-month exchange at Columbia Business School. He holds a private pilot licence for airplanes and a remote pilot licence for rotary aircraft, both from the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority.
