Overview
Sofie Baeten built a career in Venture Capital spanning multiple Belgian funds. She started at Mercedes and Bekaert before becoming managing partner at Capital-E (early-stage fund for micro-electronics and advanced materials), then Gimv, and then Baekeland Fonds II, the University of Ghent's Venture Capital fund.
She founded QBIC, specializing in investing in spin-offs and startups linked to Belgian universities and research institutes. QBIC's Fund III launched in 2025, backed by 6 universities plus VITO and imec.
Baeten currently holds board positions including Chair at Aloxy and QustomDot, and director at Blue Foot Membranes, iFLUX, and Accelleran. She holds an MSc in Materials Science Engineering from UGent, a PhD from KU Leuven, and a Master in Entrepreneurship from Vlerick Business School.
