A thoughtful piece in New Scientist this week explores an idea Christophe Jurczak has been developing: why Quantum Computing’s constantly shifting timeline isn’t a sign of failure, but a reflection of how truly foundational technologies evolve.
The phrase “five years away” has become shorthand for scepticism. Christophe’s argument is that it misses the point.
Every year, the industry reaches milestones that once seemed out of reach: better #qubits, lower error rates, more capable hardware and increasingly useful scientific applications. But each breakthrough also reshapes our understanding of what a truly useful #QuantumComputer needs to be.
This is a feature of frontier technologies, not a bug.
As Christophe argues, a quantum computer is not just a collection of qubits. It is an entire ecosystem: hardware, software, manufacturing, cryogenics, talent, infrastructure, #algorithms and applications all maturing together through iterative development.
