Germany launches Soofi S, Europe's top open-source AI model
Europe has a new flagship open-source AI model, built on home soil. A German consortium has released Soofi S, a 30-billion-parameter model trained entirely on Deutsche Telekom infrastructure in Munich.
It tops open-source benchmarks in both English and German. Beyond the leaderboard, the real story is data sovereignty: a capable model trained and hosted in Europe means less reliance on infrastructure that sits under another jurisdiction's rules.
