Building a spin-off out of a university lab usually brings a lot of deep scientific knowledge to the table but just a thin layer of commercial experience.
Me and Tom Bosschaerts worked very hard to change that. One of the calls we made along the way: open up the board to people outside the founding team.
So here it is:
Catherine Sanders and Jurgen Del Favero joined our board this month.
I met Catherine in the startup zone at the World Vaccine Congress in Washington. She mentioned she also had a background in TCR sequencing and that turned out to be over a decade in commercial roles in immune repertoire profiling at Adaptive Biotechnologies. Back then she already gave me solid advice I ended up using.
Jurgen's story loops back to where we started. As co-founder and CTO of Multiplicom, one of Belgium's most successful spin-outs, he built it at the same university we spun out of ourselves: UAntwerp, where he was a professor. Now he leads genomics strategy at CellCarta.
Feels like the right moment to have people like this in the room.
