Vamos a la playa! At Olpas, a concentration measurement instrumentation company we've build the Olpas Nerite: a combined Total Suspended Solids (TSS/SSC) sensor with flow velocity and height (0 - 10 000mm) included. Typically, Nerite sensors are installed for long term (years) and data is recorded every 60sec of 10 minutes. To save power, we require our sensors to perform a measurement 'in a few seconds'. Measuring dynamic processes evolving faster than once per minute was not really in the scope of the sensor. However, Yves Plancke had a strong interest in measuring waves (TSS, velocity and height) which required a sensor capable of a 5 to 8 Hz measurement frequency. That sounded doable, the results can be seen below in the wave flume: A device capable of measuring the most gentle of waves all-in-one (TSS/SSC, velocity and height). Cool, but 5 Hz was found to be too slow for any capture of the real wave peak (height and velocity). And of course, faster is better and allows for a more general application anyway. Based on these results the velocity and TSS/SSC measurement were already increased from 5Hz up to 20Hz. At 20Hz, a finer wave pattern can be measured and data post-processing/filtering is easily doable. So, at the end of the summer the Olpas team is again ready for the beach! 😎 (Okay, the sensor will be used in rivers, but just for fun I will bring a prototype to the beach as well )😉 In the future, customers will be able to purchase Olpas, a concentration measurement instrumentation company WaveMonitor sensors as a standard product for up to 20Hz TSS/SSC, level and velocity data!
