"Tu peux faire l'évaluation?"
Last week I was visiting Toastmasters Lille. I could say it was on my todo-list as Toastmasters Belgium & Hauts-de-France B2 Area director, but I do genuinely enjoy visiting other clubs as well.
French is not something I'd consider my strongest suit, however. So when they asked me if I wanted to do a speech evaluation, doubt hit me quite fast. Evaluating someone in a language I don't feel I master? Turns out it doesn't matter how good you feel on a stage after a year and a half at Toastmasters Gent, there's still ways to pull you out of that comfort zone.
I'd love to thank the Lille members for giving me that nudge and helping me remember what a supportive place any Toastmasters International club is! I ended up really enjoying my visit and feeling like I could do an evaluation that was actually useful.
Oddly enough, I could've written this post about Toastmasters Dunkerque and the role of General Evaluator as well, since the same thing happened literally one day later 😅.
