++ Minder werkzoekenden, maar de afstand tot werk blijft groot ++ Eind oktober telde VDAB 214.804 werkzoekenden zonder werk in Vlaanderen. Dat is 4% minder dan een jaar geleden. Achter die daling zitten wel opvallende verschuivingen: ✅ 214.804 werkzoekenden zonder werk (−4% tov vorig jaar). ✅ 6,6% werkzoekendengraad (tegenover 6,9% vorig jaar). ✅ - 23% werkzoekenden met uitkeringsaanvraag. ✅ + 23% voormalig niet-beroepsactieve werkzoekenden. ✅ 58% heeft een grote afstand tot de arbeidsmarkt. ✅ 66% van de uitstromers ging aan het werk. ✅ - 26% jongeren in beroepsinschakelingstijd. Wat vertellen deze cijfers? Minder werkzoekenden betekent niet automatisch dat evenveel mensen een job gevonden hebben. De hervorming van de werkloosheidsuitkeringen beïnvloedt ook de samenstelling van de werkzoekendenpopulatie. Meer dan de helft van de werkzoekenden heeft een grote afstand tot de arbeidsmarkt. Voor HR blijft de uitdaging dus groter dan vacatures invullen. Ook opleiding, begeleiding en aandacht voor gezondheid & welzijn blijven belangrijk om meer mensen duurzaam aan het werk te krijgen. Wat vandaag digitaal wordt bewaard, is niet automatisch morgen nog toegankelijk.    Vandaag is het Werelddag van de Digitale Duurzaamheid (#WorldDigitalPreservationDay). Het thema van dit jaar, Save Our Stories, herinnert ons eraan hoe belangrijk het is om ons digitale erfgoed te beschermen.     Organisaties creëren en verzamelen dagelijks enorme hoeveelheden digitale informatie: documenten, foto's, video's, dossiers en andere waardevolle bestanden. Maar wat gebeurt er met die informatie op lange termijn? In gesprekken met onze klanten komen steeds dezelfde vragen terug:   • Zijn bestanden ook over tien jaar nog leesbaar?   • Kunnen medewerkers informatie nog terugvinden en begrijpen?   • Blijft de context bewaard, ook wanneer systemen veranderen?   • Is duidelijk welke informatie bewaard moet blijven en hoe lang?   • Blijft een ondertekend document ook later nog verifieerbaar?     #Digitaleduurzaamheid gaat namelijk verder dan bestanden opslaan of back-ups maken. Het vraagt om een doordachte aanpak van informatiebeheer, metadata, bewaartermijnen en duurzame digitale archivering. Daar werken we met ons team elke dag aan, samen met onze klanten. Want ook zij dragen daarin een belangrijke verantwoordelijkheid: door hun informatie te ordenen, bewaartermijnen vast te leggen en aandacht te hebben voor duurzame bewaring. Maar in onze dossiers bij MEGA Charge® zie ik iets anders. Het businessplan sluit, de e-trucks zijn rendabel en de klant draagt de investering zelf. Toch staat het project al maanden stil. Niet door geld, maar door een vergunning. De e-truck rijdt vandaag al rendabel. Wat ontbreekt, zijn snelheid en zekerheid. Wie voor tien jaar investeert, wil weten waar hij staat. Hoe wordt RED III omgezet? Wat betekent ETS2 voor zijn diesels? En hoe lang duurt een vergunning voor laadinfrastructuur op zijn eigen depot? Mijn vraag aan Vlaanderen is concreet: – een versneld vergunningstraject – duidelijke regels rond RED III en ETS2 Wij staan klaar om onze praktijkervaring te delen met wie werkt aan dat versnelde traject. Gender equality in aviation starts with the conditions pilots work in.   Today, ECA President Tanja Harter spoke at the European Parliament during #GenderEquityWeek, at the event focusing on gender equality in aviation.   Her message to policymakers was clear: if the EU wants more women in the cockpit, and wants them to stay, it must address the structural barriers they face at every stage of their careers.   Access to the profession: Training to become a pilot is expensive, and women often find it harder to obtain the loans needed to pay for a pilot’s licence.   Life at work and at home: Irregular working hours and unpredictable schedules make it difficult for women pilots to attend family events. The challenge becomes even greater during pregnancy and after becoming a parent, when time with the family is already limited.   Insecure employment models: Pilots working under ACMI arrangements often lack long-term stability, allowing them to plan a life and a family.   These are not isolated issues. Together, they shape who can enter and remain in the profession. Any aviation strategy that is serious about gender equality must tackle them head-on.

The future of European shipbuilding is not just about building better ships. It is about making the entire ship lifecycle sustainable and circular. On Wednesday, Jaap Gebraad, Secretary General of WaterborneTP, joined the policy lunch “Strengthening EU Shipyards Competitiveness through Enhanced Sustainability” at the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by Jeannette Baljeu. The event brought together public and private stakeholders to explore how circularity can become an integral part of the European shipbuilding value chain. Following a ship through its entire lifecycle, from construction and operation to ports, maintenance, repair and recycling, the discussions highlighted the importance of an ecosystem approach, which involves all actors across the value chain to make circular solutions work in practice. The Horizon Europe project CirclesOfLife presented its results and demonstrated how improved environmental performance measurement and material traceability can contribute to sustainable shipbuilding practices. Apple is changing how digital identity operates. But who should decide how it works? Apple's latest WebKit restrictions are prompting another round of technical changes across digital advertising. As a recent ADZINE - MARKETING. TECH. MEDIA. article explored, identity providers are moving more functions server-side, while publishers consider alternative architectures to maintain addressability in increasingly restricted browser environments. It's an understandable move. Server-to-server identity is a legitimate approach, and one Utiq already incorporates through first-party subdomains and server-side components, with identifiers generated only after users provide consent. But the industry's response raises a wider concern. If identity providers simply adapt their technology to circumvent the latest restrictions, we risk another cycle of technical changes followed by further platform intervention. Meanwhile, the questions about how identifiers are created, shared and used remain unresolved. At Utiq, we believe the starting point should be the choices people have made about their data. Europe's GDPR and ePrivacy framework already establish requirements governing personal data and consent. Those principles should guide how identity operates, regardless of the technical architecture involved. As our Chief Product Officer, Max Baum, argues in his latest opinion piece, the industry needs common standards that make those choices effective throughout the advertising process. That means greater transparency around the signals used to construct identifiers, clear controls over how they're shared, and technical measures that preserve consent as data moves between organisations. Existing standards such as the TCF provide a foundation. Privacy-enhancing technologies offer further approaches to strengthening those controls. Apple's efforts to prevent covert tracking deserve recognition. Research highlighted by ADZINE demonstrates why greater accountability around identity practices is necessary. But platform restrictions also raise legitimate questions about the treatment of identity solutions built around explicit user consent. Protecting people from unwanted tracking and respecting their informed choices should remain central to how digital identity develops. Did you know the UK will have the largest centrally managed Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in the world from October 2027?    Earlier this week, Reloop, Marine Conservation Society and Trash Free Trails hosted a parliamentary reception to celebrate the upcoming DRS, look ahead to the year to come, and discuss how it will be a vital tool in tackling litter on our streets, trails and beaches.   We were joined by Exchange for Change, the UK’s Deposit Management Organisation, to talk through the roadmap to implementation.   Currently, UK consumers buy an estimated 31 billion single-use drinks containers every year: 12 billion plastic bottles, 14 billion cans and 5 billion glass bottles. Chicago Fed expects softer Midwest farm credit as over 17% carry extra debt David Oppedahl, a policy advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, expects agricultural credit conditions in its Midwest district to soften into 2027, Brownfield Ag News reported. A district lender survey found more than 17% of farm borrowers carried over more debt in 2026 than in 2025. Farmers report the same pressure: about 62% in Purdue's October survey reported strong balance sheets, down from January's 76%, while overall sentiment rose to 126 from 123. USDA has pledged over $15 billion in relief and loan programs; Pro Farmer reported December corn futures at a four-month low. 𝑬𝒏 𝒅𝒂𝒂𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝒋𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒈 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓. 😉 Ondertussen heeft die werkgever vaak ook al geïnvesteerd in de thuislaadpaal, de installatie, het beheer en de automatische terugbetaling van de laadkosten. Dat zijn kosten die zelden aan bod komen wanneer we het hebben over de vergoeding voor thuisladen. Nope, ik pleit er niet voor om werknemers minder te vergoeden, wel om het volledige plaatje te bekijken. ⛄ In de winter kan een forfaitaire vergoeding soms nadelig uitvallen voor de werknemer. 🌞 In de zomer kan diezelfde vergoeding net voordelig zijn, zeker wanneer er veel met eigen zonnestroom geladen wordt. Dat betekent niet dat beide situaties elkaar voor iedereen netjes compenseren. Maar het toont wel aan dat er 2 kanten aan het verhaal zijn ⚖️. Misschien moeten we niet bij elke prijsstijging alleen kijken naar wie er mogelijk te weinig krijgt, maar ook eens naar wie de volledige rekening betaalt 💰. En laat ons de werkgevers die investeren in elektrisch rijden en thuislaadinfrastructuur ook wat krediet geven. Goedemorgen Europa! In de VS hebben de Democraten overtuigend de wetgevende macht heroverd door de Senaat en het Huis van Afgevaardigden te winnen. Voor de financiële markten wil dit zeggen dat beleggers de volgende inschatting gaan maken: - Tegenvaller voor de cryptosector en de banksector, die meer regulering dreigen te krijgen. Idem voor technologie en AI-infrastructuur. Farmabedrijven krijgen vermoedelijk ook meer tegenwind onder democratisch bestuur. - Voor wie het wel positief is: producenten van hernieuwbare energie en bedrijven die investeren in energie-infrastructuur. Ook gezondheidsverzekeraars en bedrijven die profiteren van overheidsuitgaven. Maar dat is eerder storytelling en macro. Uiteindelijk gaat het om de individuele bedrijven en hun cijfers. De soep zal niet zo heet gegeten worden als ze wordt opgeschept. Hier in Azië verloor de Japanse Nikkei 225 even 4,5 procent door de val in technologieaandelen. Maar nu kalmeert de markt weer, waarbij de verliezen halveren tot 2,5 procent. Alleszins, dit is de belangrijkste politieke verandering in twee jaar voor de westerse financiële markten. So here is my question: would you accept "silence means yes" for a factory down your road, if it gets Europe ready by 2030? The #EU has adopted four new defence laws introducing significant changes to permitting, funding, chemicals exemptions and procurement. The most striking measure is the introduction of a “silence means consent” principle for designated defence projects, with permits automatically granted if authorities fail to respond within 42 working days (up to 102 in exceptional cases), applicable from February 2027. The new #AGILE programme will provide an indicative €115 million in 2027 to support innovative defence #SMEs, while procurement thresholds will increase substantially and exemptions from certain chemicals rules will become broader. These measures aim to accelerate #Europe's defence readiness, while raising questions about administrative oversight, environmental safeguards and the balance between strategic urgency and local interests. No GAP IV without local and regional governments! In March 2026, the European Commission launched the preparation process for the next EU Action Plan for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in EU External Action for 2027-2034 (GAP IV). Some months later, the European Parliament started to work on a draft own-initiative (INI) Report.   In a new Policy Position, PLATFORMA welcomes the preparation of GAP IV, which represents a key opportunity to advance a gender transformative agenda in EU external action. But to achieve real change, LRGs must be at the centre! GAP IV must operationalise the recognition of Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) in GAP III into an institutionalised multilevel governance approach. Our policy position on GAP IV sets out key recommendations to ensure that no one and no place are left behind.   Four things are clear: 🔸 GAP IV must include a territorial feminist approach to ensure meaningful participation of local communities and long-lasting outcomes adapted to local contexts.   🔸 Women's political participation is essential for achieving inclusive and democratic governance. GAP IV must support local initiatives fostering women's leadership and tackle the structural barriers that discourage women from entering or remaining in political life, including offline and online violence.   🔸 Global Gateway must deliver on gender equality. GAP IV can and should ensure that the entire investment cycle is gender-sensitive and responds to local economic ecosystems, mainly through locally anchored Gender Impact Assessments.   🔸 Gender targets are key for accountability. GAP III commitments must be maintained and extended, with a dedicated benchmark of at least 20% of all external actions with gender equality as a significant or principal objective implemented in partnership with, or channelled through, LRGs. VVSG berekende vorige week dat door de voorgestelde Vlaamse besparingen minstens 83 gemeenten zonder bijsturing in 2031 een negatieve financiële marge dreigen te krijgen. Dat maakt het voor mij des te urgenter om meer te bouwen op de kracht van mensen en buurten. Meer autonomie, zelfredzaamheid en burenhulp. Opnieuw meer op elkaar kunnen rekenen in het dagelijkse leven. In elke buurt zijn mensen met tijd, kennis, materiaal en de bereidheid om te helpen. Iemand die boodschappen kan meenemen. Een buur die iets kan herstellen. Bewoners die samen een initiatief willen dragen. De uitdaging is om die mogelijkheden bij elkaar te brengen. Zodat mensen weten wie ze kunnen aanspreken en ruimte krijgen om zelf iets te organiseren. Als we willen dat mensen meer voor elkaar betekenen, moeten we ook zorgen dat zij ergens op kunnen terugvallen. The EU Space Act heads towards trilogue The EU Space Act is moving towards trilogue negotiations, with the European Parliament's industry committee voting on 10 November. Commission, Council and Parliament each have their own text, and they disagree on licensing deadlines, cybersecurity and access for non-EU operators. From the in-orbit servicing community, here are three things we hope the final text gets right: 1️⃣ Recognise servicing as its own activity. A mission that approaches, captures or refuels another spacecraft is not a standard satellite operation. It needs a clear, specific licensing path rather than case-by-case interpretation. 2️⃣ Encourage design for servicing. Standard interfaces such as grapple fixtures, refuelling ports and markers cost little at build stage and change everything at end of life. The Act is a chance to make them the European norm. 3️⃣ Keep timelines realistic for innovators. Shorter, predictable authorisation deadlines matter most to the SMEs and research consortia driving the field. A single European rulebook for space safety and sustainability is an opportunity. Apple can decide what its browser allows. But should it decide what users are allowed to choose? A thought-provoking new article in ADZINE - MARKETING. TECH. MEDIA. explores how Apple's latest WebKit restrictions are pushing identity infrastructure further towards server-side architectures. With network access to certain identity resolution domains now blocked in Safari, providers are adapting. Some are moving identity functions onto publishers' infrastructure, while server-side frameworks are attracting renewed attention. It's an important development, but it raises a question that goes well beyond technical architecture. Who should ultimately determine how digital identity operates? At Utiq, we recognise the legitimacy of server-to-server approaches. Indeed, our own infrastructure already incorporates first-party and server-side components, built around explicit user consent. But moving identity resolution from the browser to the server cannot become another game of cat and mouse between technology providers and platforms. If the objective is simply to circumvent the latest restriction, the underlying problem remains unresolved. We also recognise Apple's efforts to prevent covert tracking. The research highlighted by ADZINE demonstrates why stronger safeguards and greater transparency around identity signals are necessary. But in Europe, we already have an established regulatory framework built around the rights and choices of individuals. Those choices should matter more than the technical preferences of any single platform. That means consent must be meaningful, transparent and technically respected throughout the advertising ecosystem, regardless of whether identifiers travel through browsers or servers. It also means the industry needs common standards that make identity signals and their use more transparent, with appropriate controls governing how identifiers are created, shared and activated. For us, responsible addressability has never been about finding new ways around restrictions. It's about building infrastructure that respects user choice while enabling the Open Internet to remain addressable, measurable and competitive. The ADZINE article provides a valuable perspective on how identity providers are responding to Apple's latest intervention. But perhaps the more consequential question is whether the industry can move beyond reacting to platform decisions and establish a more durable foundation for digital identity. “With our EU KIDS Act, we make sure our children can enjoy their rights online: to learn, stay connected and explore.” Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy That’s an important goal. Children should be able to learn, connect, and explore online without being exposed to harmful design or unsafe digital environments. The EU Kids Act aims to make that possible by strengthening platform responsibilities, introducing age-based access rules, and requiring services to be safer by design. But there’s a catch: protecting kids online shouldn’t come at the cost of their privacy. The proposal would target addictive features such as infinite scrolling and manipulative notifications. It would also require tracking-based personalization to be turned off by default and introduce age-verification methods designed to protect users’ identities through zero-knowledge proofs. That’s a promising step, but it doesn’t remove every privacy concern. Platforms may only receive confirmation that someone meets an age requirement, but the organization issuing that proof would still need to verify the person’s identity. How that information is collected, stored, and protected matters just as much as what platforms ultimately see. And there are other questions worth asking. Could parental controls undermine teenagers’ privacy? Could age-verification systems be repurposed for tracking or surveillance? And will privacy-preserving options be accessible to everyone? March 2029 might seem far away, but when it comes to the secondary use of health data across the EU, the clock is ticking. ⏳     Last week, our colleagues Karel Coppieters-Ameye and Patrick Rosière attended the "Re-use of Health Data in Belgium" event at La Tricoterie in Brussels, hosted by the Belgian Health Data Agency, Sciensano, and FOD Volksgezondheid, Veiligheid van de Voedselketen en Leefmilieu as part of the EU-backed HeDERA project.     The event provided updates on the European and Belgian implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), as well as breakout sessions on making health data findable, ensuring data quality and utility, and defining roles and responsibilities within the EHDS ecosystem. The European Parliament’s position on the next Horizon Europe sends a clear signal: Europe is doubling down on innovation. 🔹 A €200bn programme, above the Commission’s €175bn 🔹 The EIC more than tripled, to €32.5bn 🔹 €2.5bn dedicated to the Knowledge and Innovation Communities: concrete, ring-fenced and built to last Why it matters: Europe invests around 2.2% of its GDP in R&D. That’s more than Canada, Singapore or the UAE, all below 2%, but well behind the US at around 3.5%. Yet Singapore and the UAE have become magnets for founders and capital. The lesson is clear: it’s not only how much you invest, it’s how fast research becomes companies. That’s what we at 28DIGITAL do, that’s what our 8 sister organisations do. Every day, they bring together founders and dreamers, regions and corporates, research centres and universities. Our job, the way I see it is to make sure a good idea in Sardegna, Cluj Napoca, Tampere, Madrid and Tallinn, finds the people, capital and markets it needs. Publiiq has opened an agency in Riga. Publiiq Latvia covers public affairs and communications for Latvia and the Baltics. It works with international companies and organisations looking to expand into the Latvian and Baltic markets, and helps Latvian companies, associations and municipalities make their case in Brussels. Latvia is setting the priorities for its national and regional partnership plan, worth about €9.3 billion under the Commission's proposal for the next EU budget. It has signed a €3.5 billion SAFE defence loan, and it takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in July 2028. Its positions on EU files are formed in Riga before they reach Brussels. We follow each file ourselves in both capitals, from the national position in Riga to the EU institutions in Brussels, and combine this with media, reputation and digital communications in one team. The left wants to tax the rich.  The right wants to cut spendings. There is no common ground, no common goal. Recipe for internal war and self destruction. Before we can have any of those conversations, we first need to recreate a common that we all want to fight for. The right should not fight the left, and the left should not fight the right.  We are all in this together. We need to work with each other. For that, we first need to rebuild the relationship between the left and the right, between the feminine and the masculine, the yin and the yang. This fight is in all of us. It's not just "them". It's a fractal. The Yang that pursues performance, efficiency, structure, reducing complexity, creating models, rigid foundations. Everything that makes life possible. The Yin that embraces complexity, that brings life, beauty, care, that creates community and holds it together, that gives everyone a sense of belonging. Everything that makes life worth living. The Right knows how to gather resources, how to make money. Why are we fighting them? The Left knows how to keep society together, take care of everyone. Why are we fighting them? We are misguided. We are fighting the wrong enemy. We are supposed to support each other, honour each other. Go hate Elon, go hate communists, but keep your hate. It's a mind virus. I don't want it. I want to sit down with everyone and reconnect with what is worth fighting for, together. A healthy society –a common– that provides a safe and brave space for its citizens to create goods and services for each other and for the rest of the world. Drone operations are growing. So is the need to understand what is happening in the airspace. The latest EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency Annual Safety Review reports 27 non-fatal accidents and 12 serious incidents involving UAS in 2025, a significant increase compared with 2024. De cijfers spreken voor zich: → ⁠In 2024 deden 54.482 ondernemingen beroep op de KMO-portefeuille, goed voor €43,5 miljoen aan subsidies. → ⁠Zelf investeerden ze nog eens €100 miljoen extra. → Elke euro steun leverde twee euro productiviteitsgroei op (bron: Technopolis, Vives, KU Leuven). → ⁠Voor de Vlaamse overheid kostte dit gemiddeld amper €60 per KMO per jaar. Vooral kleine bedrijven zonder eigen HR of opleidingsstructuur verliezen nu hun enige duwtje richting cybersecurity, AI of digitalisering. Zes keer werd het systeem hervormd, nooit écht afgewerkt. En nu: gewoon stopzetten – zonder plan, zonder overgangsmaatregel, zonder alternatief voor zo’n 738.000 KMO’s. Maar vanaf 1 januari 2027 legt de herziene Europese F-gassenverordening de lat voor nieuwe compacte warmtepompen en airco's (≤ 12 kW) al op een GWP van maximaal 150. Bovendien worden de HFK-quota in Europa drastisch geknepen, waardoor R-32 niet het eindstation blijkt, maar een overgangsfase. Eens er geen geld meer is hapert het systeem. 3) De verzorgingsstaat werkt op geld dat er niet is /geleend moet worden van toekomstige generaties. Ik verwacht dat de huidige verzorgingsstaat noodgedwongen afgebouwd zal worden tijdens mijn leven. 4) Nu zit je met Vlaamse liberalen die oppositie voeren tegen Waalse liberalen in de regering en Waalse socialisten die oppositie voeren tegen Vlaamse socialisten in de regering. Dat krijg je gewoon niet uitgelegd in het buitenland / wijst erop hoe ver het bestuursprobleem in België al gevorderd is. 5) Nieuwe verkiezingen zullen niets veranderen aan de bestuurlijke realiteit dat financieel er geen geld is. Dat zal voor de volgende ploeg alleen maar erger worden. De rekening komt eraan. Of we het nu willen of niet.

Eens er geen geld meer is hapert het systeem. 3) De verzorgingsstaat werkt op geld dat er niet is /geleend moet worden van toekomstige generaties. Ik verwacht dat de huidige verzorgingsstaat noodgedwongen afgebouwd zal worden tijdens mijn leven. 4) Nu zit je met Vlaamse liberalen die oppositie voeren tegen Waalse liberalen in de regering en Waalse socialisten die oppositie voeren tegen Vlaamse socialisten in de regering. Dat krijg je gewoon niet uitgelegd in het buitenland / wijst erop hoe ver het bestuursprobleem in België al gevorderd is. 5) Nieuwe verkiezingen zullen niets veranderen aan de bestuurlijke realiteit dat financieel er geen geld is. Dat zal voor de volgende ploeg alleen maar erger worden. De rekening komt eraan. Of we het nu willen of niet.

We all complain about HIGH COMPETITION in public sector tenders.  Numbers tell a different story. The competition is in fact very LOW. But things are changing - very fast. Currently, 41% of tenders receive only 1 proposal.  69% of tenders receive 3 proposals or less. 18% of tenders are canceled. Out of them, 6-13% due to insufficient bids, the rest for other or unspecified reasons (based on Hermix data for selected analyzed markets). Between 2011 and 2021, the share of contracts receiving only one bid rose from 23.5% to 41.8%, and the average number of bidders fell from 5.7 to 3.2 (according to the European Court of Auditors). The median EU country has single bids for 28% of tenders (EC Scoreboard 2024). The reality is that the public sector space is NOT crowded. There are very few or no proposals submitted. There are a LOT of tenders canceled. A lot of these cancelation are caused by insufficient bids. But things are going to change. Fast. The new generation of AI tools allow companies to write and submit better, cheaper proposals. Soon, companies will submit several times more tenders. Each tender will have hundreds or thousands or pages. Very well written, solid, verified, checked. Companies are usually not forbidden from using AI. And even if they would be forbidden, there are ways to go around such interdictions.  Yes, they still need great technical proposal writers, architects, experts, bid managers. Without a great team, AI is not able to write a winning proposal. But with AI, humans can work so much faster, and better. At the same time, most evaluators are not allowed to use AI, or have strong limits on AI use. Some are internal interdictions, some are public - e.g. for Eureka, or for Horizon grants (the research programme of the European Union). This creates a huge disadvantage for public authorities and funding bodies. They use 30-year old tools and processes, to evaluate 100 times more, better proposals. Authorities and funding bodies will need to adapt fast. The evaluation criteria and tools will change sharply.  We live incredible, exciting times. We have no idea what the world will look like, even in 1 year from now.

Je loonkosten stijgen automatisch. Je omzet niet. In de weekendeditie van L’Echo sprak ik deze week over de loonindexering. Richting 1 januari 2027 verwachten we in PC 200 een indexering van meer dan 4%. Wat me daarin stoort: elk loon stijgt even snel, of je bedrijf nu winst maakt of niet, en of een medewerker uitblinkt of niet. Ook als je omzet daalt, stijgt je loonfactuur. Daar valt als ondernemer niet over te onderhandelen. Voor een kleine KMO is zo’n kostenshock enorm. En het komt op het slechtst mogelijke moment. AI zet het verdienmodel van dienstenbedrijven onder druk. Klanten doen zelf wat ze vroeger aan een bureau of consultant uitbesteedden. Prijzen omlaag, loonkosten omhoog. Die schaar baart me zorgen. L’Echo sprak een tiental bedrijfsleiders. Weinigen denken aan ontslagen, maar de meesten schroeven hun aanwervingsplannen fors terug. Pieter Demandt rekende voor dat 4% op hun loonmassa van 8 miljoen euro 320.000 euro extra kost. Dat zijn meer dan vijf voltijdse jobs. Koopkracht beschermen is belangrijk. Maar een systeem dat menselijk werk elk jaar automatisch duurder maakt, los van wat het oplevert, duwt bedrijven weg van aanwervingen. Dat verdient een beleidsdebat. Alleen kunnen we als ondernemers niet wachten tot de overheid beweegt 🤷‍♂️ Wat we wel zelf in handen hebben: hoeveel tijd er naar administratie gaat. Offertes, facturen, opvolging, planning. Niet om minder mensen aan te nemen, maar om je mensen te laten werken aan wat groei oplevert. Fabrice Brion vertelt in hetzelfde artikel dat I-Care sterk groeide met een stabiele loonmassa, dankzij automatisering en AI. Een bedrijf dat zo groeit, neemt morgen weer mensen aan. Een bedrijf dat marge verliest, niet.

In een land waar de minderheid het meeste bijdraagt, zal die minderheid als het probleem worden weggezet. Spot. On.

In an interconnected world, the facts about what happens in Finland matter to everyone across the world. It is dramatic that externalities due to which the value created by STT does not flow into sufficient revenues for STT could lead to the end of the news agency in Finland. It is my vision that a growing awareness among positive feedback effects by stakeholders and the deployment of technology enabling a better grid connection across high stake decision makers around the world will positively contribute to the system. We wrote about this vision in 2023 and work every day with the university spin-off Sentometrics BV to make steps forward in this. La Commission européenne vient de publier son bilan annuel sur la décennie numérique en Europe : la Belgique y est saluée pour la qualité de ses infrastructures de données de santé, mais le même rapport pointe un déploiement de l’intelligence artificielle dans les soins encore limité et inégal selon les établissements.
