Future chief risk officers may be judged on how well they help their organization move, as well as on how well they protect it. That’s one of the ideas in the World Economic Forum’s new report, Risk Management, Reimagined. The protection side of the role has always had clear measures, like incidents avoided and controls in place. Enablement is harder to measure, and harder to build for. Helping a business move faster with confidence depends on seeing what’s shifting outside it before it becomes a constraint or a missed opportunity. Those shifts usually show up first as faint signals in patent filings, regulatory consultations and investment flows. By the time they’re obvious enough to make it into a briefing, the window to act has often narrowed. AI geeft me meer grip op mijn werk. En tegelijk minder grip op wat er op ons afkomt. Vorige week was ik op stap met een vriendin. We raakten aan de praat over IT en AI. Over de grote verwachtingen bij bedrijven. Verhalen over ontslagrondes en mensen die niet meer vervangen worden. Het maakt me ongerust. Wat betekent dit voor jobs? Voor mensen? Voor onze organisaties? Gaat het echt zo’n vaart nemen? Het gaat zo snel. En het lijkt alleen maar sneller te gaan. 🤯 En dan kijk ik naar mijn eigen werkdag. AI helpt me om sneller iets uit te werken. Om te sparren wanneer mijn gedachten alle kanten uitgaan. Om een meeting voor te bereiden. Ik heb ondertussen iets ingericht dat me elke dag helpt mijn focus te bepalen, me aan zaken herinnert en structuur brengt in mijn werk. Dat geeft rust. En er ontstaat ruimte om dingen te realiseren die anders langer blijven liggen. Maar ik merk ook hoe vanzelfsprekend ik ernaar grijp. Hoe snel het iets wordt waarop ik reken. Ik voel dus allebei: enthousiasme over wat vandaag al kan én onzekerheid over wat morgen brengt. Als ondernemer wil ik vooruit. Ontdekken wat ons kan helpen groeien. Anderzijds wil ik blijven stilstaan bij wat die verandering betekent voor de mensen die mee die groei waarmaken. Ja, ik wil AI omarmen. Ermee werken, proberen, bijleren. Begrijpen waar het helpt en waar mijn eigen oordeel nodig blijft. Ik weet niet waar dit naartoe gaat. Maar ik voel wel dat ermee leren omgaan mij én onze organisatie verder kan brengen. The Rise of the personal AI Agents, the Tamagotchi 2.0 👾

Packing my bag for Paris Creator Week, and the lineup reads like someone designed it around my obsessions. 8,000+ attendees, 300+ speakers at Grande Halle de la Villette. Here are the sessions I circled first. "From One Market to Five: Can Creator Marketing Scale Across Europe?" Google, eBay, and Novo Nordisk tackling the exact puzzle we face scaling Willow across Benelux and beyond. "Everything You Wanted to Know About LinkedIn." Obviously. LinkedIn is the living room of every B2B firm we serve. "Designing High-Impact Influencer Campaigns in the Age of AI." Building AI content tools since 2018 means I have strong opinions here. Looking forward to comparing notes. See you in Paris? N.B. Instinct was a great help in selecting the relevant sessions and booking them into my calendar.

“Geniet ervan, het is de schoonste tijd van je leven.” Dat kreeg ik als student veel te horen. Voor mij voelde het niet zo. Ik heb jaren gedubbeld en paste niet echt in het systeem. De hel was het ook niet: ik ben er volwassener geworden en leerde er mensen als Jeroen De Wit kennen, die later bepalend was in mijn parcours. Maar toen ik dat diploma haalde, viel er wel een last van mijn schouders. Vorige week stond ik zelf voor de klas. Gastles bij de bachelorstudenten van Vives, in het vak HR en coaching. Ik hoor bij ons in de streek wel eens dat de jeugd niet meer vooruit wil en ze vooral willen genieten met weinig ambitie. Ik zag een groep die aandachtig het verhaal van Peepel volgde. Bij de vragenronde ging het eerst over features. Daarna niet meer over HR of AI, wel over ondernemen. Op een bepaald moment zelfs over beleggen: bijna iedereen was ermee bezig. Makkelijk gaan ze het niet hebben. AI, you know. Nemen bedrijven nog junioren aan? Welke jobs bestaan er over vijf jaar nog? Ik bouw zelf mee aan die zeer digitale wereld, dus ik besef dat het voor hen geen evidentie is. Maar met goesting, positiviteit en wat flexibiliteit komt er altijd wel iets uit de bus. Ik zag een lector die het beste uit haar groep wil halen. Ik zag studenten die het beste uit hun verdere leven willen halen. Voor zo’n klas zou ik zelf wel voor het bord willen staan. Ik begin school precies leuker te vinden dan toen ik er zelf zat. 😅 Die studenten zoeken nu voor een praktijkcase een HR-oplossing voor een bedrijf. Marktonderzoek, business case, het volledige plaatje. Dat betekent ook demo’s aanvragen. Veel bedrijven staan daar wat weigerachtig tegenover, want het kost tijd en het levert geen klant op. In 1974 the Hong Kong Hilton put a minibar in every room, in-room beverage sales rose 500% almost overnight, and the hotel org chart acquired a job called minibar attendant. That is the pattern our founder, Vassilis Syropoulos, traces in his latest piece, and once you have seen it you cannot stop seeing it. The passenger lift at the Fifth Avenue Hotel in 1859 created the lift operator. Edison wiring the Prospect House in 1882 created the resident electrician and eventually the whole engineering department. Statler putting a private bathroom in every room in 1908 rebuilt housekeeping around room attendants and productivity targets. High-speed internet in the 2000s gave the GM somebody called an IT manager reporting in to them. Hotels get these things before houses do, because a hotel is where a new technology first has to work for people who never asked for it. And every wave changed who the hotel employs. Which is the uncomfortable question sitting underneath the current one. Earlier waves reshaped the org chart quietly, over a decade or two. "This one will not have the luxury of a decade." Last time I wrote that I was looking at the Harada method to set our new strategic goals. Yesterday we spent our strategy day on it. This is how went: 1️⃣ Writing the pillars was the hard part. Two of them kept overlapping on our people and culture. It only clicked when we clearly drew a line between them, one is about belonging, the other is about growing. 2️⃣ Financial health matters, but it’s a condition, not a goal. 3️⃣ A goal only counts once it has a deadline and a KPI. A nice sentence is easy to write. Saying by when, and how you’ll know, is harder. 4️⃣ The framework as it forces you to think big enough but the 8x8 structure makes it manageable to work in. The real test is whether our people support a goal in the coming months. I’ll share how it goes. If you’ve used Harada for a company, did the actions stay alive after the first quarter, or only the 8 pillars?

Apple can decide what its browser allows. But should it decide what users are allowed to choose? A thought-provoking new article in ADZINE - MARKETING. TECH. MEDIA. explores how Apple's latest WebKit restrictions are pushing identity infrastructure further towards server-side architectures. With network access to certain identity resolution domains now blocked in Safari, providers are adapting. Some are moving identity functions onto publishers' infrastructure, while server-side frameworks are attracting renewed attention. It's an important development, but it raises a question that goes well beyond technical architecture. Who should ultimately determine how digital identity operates? At Utiq, we recognise the legitimacy of server-to-server approaches. Indeed, our own infrastructure already incorporates first-party and server-side components, built around explicit user consent. But moving identity resolution from the browser to the server cannot become another game of cat and mouse between technology providers and platforms. If the objective is simply to circumvent the latest restriction, the underlying problem remains unresolved. We also recognise Apple's efforts to prevent covert tracking. The research highlighted by ADZINE demonstrates why stronger safeguards and greater transparency around identity signals are necessary. But in Europe, we already have an established regulatory framework built around the rights and choices of individuals. Those choices should matter more than the technical preferences of any single platform. That means consent must be meaningful, transparent and technically respected throughout the advertising ecosystem, regardless of whether identifiers travel through browsers or servers. It also means the industry needs common standards that make identity signals and their use more transparent, with appropriate controls governing how identifiers are created, shared and activated. For us, responsible addressability has never been about finding new ways around restrictions. It's about building infrastructure that respects user choice while enabling the Open Internet to remain addressable, measurable and competitive. The ADZINE article provides a valuable perspective on how identity providers are responding to Apple's latest intervention. But perhaps the more consequential question is whether the industry can move beyond reacting to platform decisions and establish a more durable foundation for digital identity. Apple is right to challenge covert tracking. But protecting users should also mean respecting the choices they have explicitly made. Thank you to ADZINE for bringing this important debate into focus. 🔥 Unpopular opinion: Switching to post-quantum cryptography doesn't automatically make your system quantum-safe. There. I said it. 😁 Everyone is talking about PQC algorithms, migration roadmaps, and quantum-resistant standards and rightly so! But here's a question: What's the point of a quantum-resistant algorithm if the randomness generating your cryptographic keys is predictable? Now, before the cryptographers bring out their pitchforks... 😅 No, QRNG is not mandatory for PQC and yes, properly engineered classical entropy sources could be suitable. But a quantum-resistant algorithm is not the same thing as a quantum-safe system. That's the discussion we wanted to open with our latest article, drawing on NIST and ETSI guidance. So, here's my question: Are we spending too much time debating the next generation of algorithms while taking the randomness underneath them for granted? AI is making it easier than ever to start work. I’m not convinced it’s making it easier to finish. There’s a growing argument that AI has made two-week sprints obsolete. When software can be built in hours instead of weeks, why commit to a plan for two weeks? There’s something to that. But writing code was never the only thing standing between an idea and delivering value. We still need to decide what is worth building, verify that it actually works, and coordinate everything required to get it into the hands of customers. And here’s what I find particularly interesting. When starting something becomes almost effortless, the temptation to start more things grows. Another experiment. Another feature. Another promising idea. Before we know it, we have more work in progress, more things waiting for validation, and more decisions competing for attention. AI may have accelerated development while making the rest of our delivery system even more constrained. That’s why I believe managing flow, limiting WIP, and understanding where work gets stuck are becoming more important, not less. The opportunity isn’t simply to deliver the same work faster. It’s to rethink how we manage the entire flow of value now that one part of the system has fundamentally changed. Faster coding does not mean faster delivery.

The left wants to tax the rich.  The right wants to cut spendings. There is no common ground, no common goal. Recipe for internal war and self destruction. Before we can have any of those conversations, we first need to recreate a common that we all want to fight for. The right should not fight the left, and the left should not fight the right.  We are all in this together. We need to work with each other. For that, we first need to rebuild the relationship between the left and the right, between the feminine and the masculine, the yin and the yang. This fight is in all of us. It's not just "them". It's a fractal. The Yang that pursues performance, efficiency, structure, reducing complexity, creating models, rigid foundations. Everything that makes life possible. The Yin that embraces complexity, that brings life, beauty, care, that creates community and holds it together, that gives everyone a sense of belonging. Everything that makes life worth living. The Right knows how to gather resources, how to make money. Why are we fighting them? The Left knows how to keep society together, take care of everyone. Why are we fighting them? We are misguided. We are fighting the wrong enemy. We are supposed to support each other, honour each other. Go hate Elon, go hate communists, but keep your hate. It's a mind virus. I don't want it. I want to sit down with everyone and reconnect with what is worth fighting for, together. A healthy society –a common– that provides a safe and brave space for its citizens to create goods and services for each other and for the rest of the world. We have the talent, we have the money, we just need to go beyond our differences to rebuild the commons that keep us together 🔅

That’s what we kept coming back to across both sides of the Atlantic, at Gartner for HR Symposium/Xpo™ events this October in London and Orlando. So we put numbers on it: what can AI actually absorb, what does it just speed up, and what stays human? Across 20,127 roles scored task by task, AI can absorb 1.4% of enterprise work and accelerate 39.2%. The rest stays human. A few more we took home: → Freed-up hours mean nothing until you decide where they go → Layoffs look fast on paper. The hidden costs show up later → AI has a cost line too, so plan people and AI as one budget → Agents don’t fix messy data. They expose it. Thanks to everyone who stopped by this year. ++ It's a great time to be in HR! ++ Dat zeggen we bij #ZigZagHR al jaren. En na het #ZigZagHR Forum 2026 zijn we daar alleen maar meer van overtuigd. Meer dan 300 HR-professionals zakten af naar Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp voor een dag vol inzichten, verrassende perspectieven en inspirerende praktijkverhalen. Er beweegt ontzettend veel in de wereld van werk: AI schudt de kaarten door elkaar, de arbeidsmarkt blijft ons uitdagen, verwachtingen over werk en leiderschap veranderen en organisaties zoeken naar antwoorden op complexe vraagstukken. Je kan er moedeloos van worden of net ontzettend veel goesting van krijgen. We kiezen voor het laatste... De thema's waar we ons als HR-professionals dagelijks over buigen, raken steeds meer aan de kern van ondernemerschap: van de toekomst van werk en de inzet van technologie tot de manier waarop we organisaties leiden, talent ontwikkelen en werk organiseren. Dat geeft HR alle kansen om mee richting te bepalen, nieuwe perspectieven binnen te brengen, vanzelfsprekendheden in vraag te stellen, bruggen te bouwen tussen mensen en strategie en een wezenlijke bijdrage te leveren aan de toekomst van organisaties. De strategische rol waar HR al zo lang over spreekt, ligt vandaag meer dan ooit binnen handbereik. Not so long ago, every voyage started with a stack of paper charts. In this second clip, Céline MORTIER, CEO of BOGERD MARTIN and newly elected President of WISTA International, looks back at that time in shipping. Charts corrected by hand. It is a good reminder of how recent the digital shift in shipping really is, and how much of the PortTech we work on today builds on the people who knew the paper way. Wat ik wel en niet mis uit mijn tijd als Head of Marketing. 23 jaar werkte ik binnen organisaties, waarvan heel wat jaren als Head of Marketing. En ik deed dat graag. De marketingvisie uitzetten, samen met mijn team bouwen aan merken, projecten aansturen, mensen begeleiden en hen zien groeien. Samen uitdagingen aanpakken en met voldoening terugkijken op wat we gerealiseerd hadden. Maar er was ook een andere kant. De vele meetings en dagelijks organisatorische beslommeringen die bij een managementfunctie horen. Allemaal onderdeel van de job, maar soms namen ze zoveel tijd in beslag dat er minder ruimte overbleef voor wat ik het liefste deed: inhoudelijk met marketing bezig zijn en samen met mijn team het verschil maken. En net dat begon na een tijd te wegen. Toen ik eind 2022 besloot mijn opdracht af te sluiten, wist ik nog niet precies hoe mijn volgende professionele hoofdstuk eruit zou zien. Uiteindelijk werd dat Markov. Vandaag kan ik nog altijd mensen begeleiden, samen nadenken en richting en structuur brengen, maar ik ben minder betrokken bij de dagelijkse interne werking van één organisatie. Uiteraard brengt het ondernemerschap ook uitdagingen met zich mee, van klanten aantrekken tot onze eigen organisatie verder uitbouwen. Maar de combinatie van ondernemen en inhoudelijk met marketing bezig zijn, bevalt me bijzonder goed. Een tweede carrière, na mijn 45ste. Wie had dat gedacht. 😊

Authenticity is not what most people on LinkedIn think it is. You don't need to share your personal struggles. You don't need to tell everyone about the worst day in your life. You don't need to post a vulnerable confession to prove you're human. In fact, I think we've become a little too obsessed with showing people who we are, and not nearly obsessed enough with showing them what we stand for. The always interesting Faris Yakob explained it well in Paid Attention: "Being authentic as a brand, or person, is really simple. Stand for something, establish a consistent mode of behaviour and then express it through everything you do, communications and commerce." I think that's a much more useful definition. Authenticity is about #consistency. It's whether your actions match your words. Whether your values influence your decisions. Whether the way you treat people reflects what you claim to believe. Whether you're willing to say no to something when it contradicts what you stand for. And this applies to individuals just as much as it applies to businesses. You can share every detail of your personal life and still be completely inauthentic. You can also be a relatively private person and have an incredibly authentic personal brand. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Here's my slightly unpopular take: authenticity has very little to do with how much you reveal about yourself. It has everything to do with whether people can trust that your behavior will match your words. You don't build that trust with a particularly emotional LinkedIn post. You build it over time, through the things you consistently do. And perhaps that's a much less glamorous definition of authenticity. But it's a much more useful one.

After about 30 years in the water sector, I keep coming back to the assumptions beneath our work. Not which technology we choose, how much data we gather, or how we innovate, but through which lens we look. The lens comes first. Before we ever sound a river, we have already decided what she is: a flow to calculate, a channel to maintain, a risk to manage. Our instruments carry that decision inside them. Rick Rubin says that whoever makes something is not the source, but an antenna. What comes through depends on what you are tuned to receive. When I set out to walk twenty days along the Zêzere, I carried many questions for me and the river, but one surfaced often: What does a river become, and what do I become, when I let her be a living being? The river did not ask the engineer to stay behind. She let both ways of seeing look into the same water. What rose from that water became #TheMaverick, an audio series made with the river rather than about her. Six episodes are out now. The Zêzere is alive. She moved my thinking, and gave me lenses I will never take off again. This is not a podcast to play in the background. It is more a walk to come along on. Skin conditions don’t start on skin; they start in the gut. We reviewed nine skin conditions, from acne to psoriasis to alopecia areata. For many of them, gut microbiome dysbiosis is well established. Yesterday, I talked about what that tells us about the connection between the gut and the skin. I spoke at the Scientific Symposium of the Royal Belgian Society of Cosmetology in my hometown, Gent. My talk "The Gut/Skin axis and the role in skin diseases" builds on our highly-citeda review paper we published a couple of years ago, where we looked at nine dermatological conditions: acne vulgaris, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa, rosacea, alopecia areata and others. In every one of them, we documented an altered skin microbiome. For many skin conditions, gut microbiome dysbiosis is well established. Hidradenitis suppurativa comes with a significantly increased risk of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Rosacea is associated with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and in clinical studies, eliminating SIBO produced a significant reduction in skin lesions. For alopecia areata, a case report described hair re-growth after fecal microbiota transplant in two patients. For other conditions, the gut microbiome picture is still unclear, unreported or contested. I find that gap as interesting as the confirmed associations, because it shows where the gut-skin connection is still an open question. It was wonderful to connect with everyone! Our UK customer base grew 4x this year. And this week, the government here put £700m behind AI. Yesterday, I joined AI and tech leaders at 11 Downing Street, hosted by the Chancellor. Phones stayed at the door, so a room full of people building the future of AI had no way to AirDrop contact info. Just lots of, “I’ll remember you and reach out.” Old-school networking aside, it was great to see the government taking AI this seriously. But what matters most to me is building AI that helps companies truly understand people. That’s why our customers keep coming back. The UK is now our second-biggest market after the US & more than twice as many teams run research on Conveo as a year ago. Still getting settled into London life, but the energy around AI here is real. We started in Europe, but our customers are everywhere. European AI can compete globally, and it should.

Three years, 14 partners, 15 case studies, 200 interviews – and one final blog post. As ENSURED comes to a close this month, our coordinators Hylke Dijkstra and Clara Weinhardt (Maastricht University) look back on what the project set out to do, how much the world changed along the way, and what we've learned. The international order has shifted dramatically since we first started thinking about ENSURED: Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine weeks before our call deadline, a global AI race, a more assertive China, and a US that has stepped back from multilateral cooperation. Two takeaways: 🌐 Contestation over reform can't be reduced to "the US vs. China". Many actors are pushing for change, with shifting conflict lines across institutions – insights that will matter when windows of opportunity open again. 🌐 The global governance community of scholars, diplomats, officials, and civil society remains strong and engaged. Global governance, as they put it, is a work in progress. If there's a yoga session - or a Lego Seriouns Play workshop, for that matter - taking place during your hackathon, you're doing your hackathon wrong. To be clear: I'm all for yoga (I have been practicing myself for years). I also really appreciate what a knowledgeable practitioner can do with Lego Serious Play. But a hackathon is there to 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, so if a component of the programme doesn't contribute to the results, it shouldn't be there. After forty-five hackathons, the programme I trust has very little in it: two 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, a storyteller 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀-𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 before conclusion, and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. The Lean Canvases, post-its, colored hats all stay on the shelf unless a team gets stuck. And even then, it's mostly humans who get teams unstuck, not methodological trickery. Don't agree? Waarom alweer iets nieuws bedenken als je beter kan luisteren 🧠 Deze week betrapte ik mezelf op een een aloude marketing fout. Marketeers (en ikzelf) hebben doorgaans het vermogen om nieuwe termen te verzinnen om bijzonder te worden zonder dat het iets bijdraagt. Zelf (arrogant als ik ben!) doe daar zonder meer ook aan mee. Zo dropte ik een tijd geleden de term 'Inreach'. Op zich een mooie term om in het kabaal tussen Outreach, Outbound, Intent en Inbound een punt te maken. Maar eerlijk, dat was eigenlijk niet zo slim. 😵💫 Ik zal je ook vertellen waarom. Met Stairoids hebben we een nogal uniek product gebouwd wat al moeilijk te vergelijken is met wat andere organisaties doen. Potentiele kopers hebben dus een moeilijk referentiekader om ons in een hoekje te plaatsen. En als je binnen je organisatie wilt uitleggen waarom je iets wilt kopen is het wel handig als de directie begrijpt wat een product doet. En met Inreach, maakte ik het simpelweg nog een stapje complexer. 🤯 Dan deze week, we zien dat er steeds meer over ons gecommuniceerd wordt. PARTIE 2/2 : L'IA, c'est aussi une question de choix humains 🤖 Dans ma première vidéo, je partageais quelques réflexions autour de l'intelligence artificielle. Aujourd'hui, je continue avec cette deuxième partie, et deux interventions qui m'ont particulièrement fait réfléchir. D'abord, celle de Pieter den Hamer, sur la maturité des entreprises face à l'IA. Parce que finalement, ce. n'est pas parce qu'on utilise beaucoup d'IA qu'on l'utilise forcément bien. Automatiser un processus qui fonctionne mal ne va pas le rendre meilleur. Il va simplement fonctionner plus vite. Ensuite, celle de Jacob Coxon, qui soulève une autre question : celle du contrôle. On parle énormément de ce que l'IA est capable de faire, mais peut-être pas assez de ce qu'on lui permet réellement de faire. Les accès qu'on lui donne, les décisions qu'on lui délègue et les limites qu'on choisit de fixer. Sans oublier un sujet qui mérite aussi notre attention : son impact environnemental. Plus j'avance, plus je me dis que la question n'est pas uniquement de savoir jusqu'où l'IA peut aller, mais aussi jusqu'où nous souhaitons la laisser aller. Like with the Q2 results, I got up a bit earlier this morning and watched the Amazon Q3-26 earnings call over breakfast. Exciting times :-P I always try to search for the messages between the lines given by Andy Jassy and Brian Olsavsky in the earnings call. Not focussed from an investor perspective but as Cloudar as an AWS partner. Last Tuesday, we welcomed Anne-Catherine Dalcq, Walloon Minister for Agriculture, Rural Affairs, Forestry and Nature, at Sourse.eu . What struck me most were her questions. Not only about what the technology can do, but about how it can help society evolve, and where we should set the cursor with these new tools. This is a question we have been asking ourselves from the start. Monitoring thousands of kilometers of pipelines has taught us to spot a risk before it becomes an emergency. Applying the same approach to our forests, facing drought, bark beetles or the areas where forest meets homes, is a natural extension of our work. A very enriching meeting, and one that shows Sourse is in the right place in many respects. Thank you to the Minister and her team for their visit and their interest. The late maturer ends up on the bench and often quits before their body catches up. Prof. Sean Cumming (University of Bath) has worked on this with the Premier League, the FA and British Gymnastics. #ThrowbackThursday to Borås, where our Secretary General Lutz Walter gave the keynote at the Industry Innovation Day organised by TEKO, Sveriges Textil- och Modeföretag, the Swedish textile & fashion industry association. Lutz outlined the pressures on Europe’s textile industry: stagnant demand in both consumer and technical markets, rising costs of energy, inputs and capital, and skills shortages. He also pointed to where innovative players can still win, in a large and diverse market full of niches for differentiated products and services: 💻 Digitalisation, for faster data-driven decisions and real-time visibility on supply chains and markets 🌱 Biobased materials and processes, building on biotech innovation and local renewable resources such as Nordic wood and wool ⚙️ Advanced technical textiles for protection, defence, aerospace and other lightweight applications The defence opportunity came through clearly at the event: procurers in Sweden and across Europe have growing budgets and, for reasons of strategic autonomy, are increasingly turning to European suppliers.
